I'm going to go get waxed tommorow, and I was wondering if any of you have strategies for keeping smooth longer? My hair grows fast - and shaving constantly irritates my skin to no end... so I can't keep it up that way. I like being bare though.

The cost and pain of waxing had kept me from going back since the last time, but I'm feeling brave so I booked an appointment for tommorow.

Any good tips on how to keep it smooth the longest, with minimal pain/irritation? Posting it here 'cause I don't know where else to put it, and most people on AM-Pics seem to favour the bare look, it seems.

It's not that bad. Or so I keep telling myself.

I tweeze my eyebrows. I tried tweezing "down there" once, but it took too long and I got a neck cramp  Shaving makes me terribly itchy and bumpy and dries my skin, and then my excema flares up, and I can't shave it because it's too irritated, and it looks icky... and yeah, well, you get the point.

Waxing didn't irritate it as much, so I'm hoping to keep it up. I just need to figure out how to keep it relatively smooth. I swear, they say you should only have to go once a month, maybe every two weeks... but I found I was too bad by the end of a week. And that would just be too expensive to keep up.

I looked there, but didn't find anything on the topic. Maybe just not recent enough.

Called a Brazilian, and most spas offer it. Well, around here. I live in a small town, and we have TWO spas that offer it. But when I was living in the US for a few months (Bozeman, MT), the closest place I could find was almost an hour away!

Just look up local spas. It's really very easy... but make sure they have the proper credentials... wouldn't want someone untrained messing around down there!

I have never been professionally waxed below the eyebrows, so I don't know if the same is true for Down There as the eyebrows, but ...

If I go a reallly long time without getting my brows waxed, I'm pretty sensitive to the pain and my skin is extremely sensitive to the heat/pulling effect. I swear, women who get their brows done at lunch? No idea how they do it. I have to head straight home and not be seen in public for a couple of hours because the skin is BRIGHT RED. I look like I've been smacked across the eyebrows repeatedly.

Well, if I go somewhat often -- once a month, every couple of months -- it seems my skin becomes used to it and my recovery time is much shorter. So if I ever get brave enough to go Down There, I hope the same is true.

Also, isn't regular waxing supposed to, over time, reduce the amount of hair growth? So hopefully regular waxing will make the regrowth

Down there HURTS! LOL

If you find a strategy, tell me! My hair grows so friggen fast and I get ingrowns when I shave.

Well I am all waxed. Wasn't quite as bad as I was anticipating. Expecially because my period is due to start any time... which means things are generally a little more sensitive. I did have a lot of ingrown hairs, though, from shaving before... so I'm thinking I should keep up with the waxing, to avoid that more? ... in any case, I forsee stubble soon... but I'll just keep the waxing up when it gets to 1/4"... hopefully things will grow back less and less, like they say.

I'm going to hit the drugstore later for some of that cream that is supposed to slow hair growth. I've heard some good things about it.

... one day, I'm going to have all this body hair lasered off. It'll so be worth the cost!

...

I found out today though that I didn't get the appartment I applied for. *sigh* I should go to the town my school is in and look today, but it's 40 degrees with the humidex, my car doesn't have much gas... and gas prices are rediculous this weekend. Plus I just feel crappy. This is the THIRD appartment I have not gotten. Good thing I don't move until Sept... still have time to keep looking, I guess.
