The waiting was the killer. This might have surprised a casual observer. After all, Sophie was almost completely naked.
Naked, that is, apart from the collar around her neck and the ball gag in her mouth. There was a dog leash looped around the leg of the heavy desk and clipped to the dog collar. Sophie could have unclipped it, she could have undone the ball gag to rest her aching jaw or removed the collar from about her neck. She didn't. Instead, she waited. The waiting was the killer.
Sophie stiffened in panic as the sound of a door opening echoed through the offices. There wasn't supposed to be anyone around at this time of night. Even the janitors had gone home.
Sophie was ambitious, it was thanks to her ambition that she was in this position. At only twenty-four, she was the youngest brand manager in the company, barely three years out of college. She'd worked late every night of those three years to get to where she was now. At the same time she'd basically given up on a personal life. She met up with her girlfriends maybe once a month, and she hadn't properly dated a guy in eighteen. They never quite had what she was looking for, and usually gave up after one too many late nights at the office.
She'd taken to these practices instead to satisfy that part of her personality. Taking risks. One day it had just been wearing no underwear to work. After that she'd escalated in risks and thrills. Today she'd planned to work late, so she'd packed some toys in her bag to make things more exciting. She'd waited until everyone had left, her subordinates, even the janitors.
There wasn't supposed to be anyone here, and the light in her office was still on!
