i've written "erotic" and non-erotic poems - not exactly what i'd call good but i wrote them to prove a point to somebody about writing implicitly instead of explicitly . . . any thoughts on this?

Every pretext is fine for writing a poem but otherwise you didn't have to prove anything to that "somebody" because the indirectness is the ever present aspect of poetry. No indirectness--no poetry.
