Because what you think or believe can change.

Think about that one for awhile...it has some profound conclusions.

What are you?

Changing your mind changes you. It's the 1st step.

as in "free your mind & your ass will follow"

I sure hope so!

What would we be if we wouldn't grow - and what else is "growing" but a change of thought, perspective and point of view, a process of adapting our position to the realities and dreams that are moulding our personality?

Isn't it even more scary to think we might be the same person we were back at age 15 - 20 - (or depending on how old you are) 30 or 40?

I personally am extremely glad to know I am changing and growing - and at times even growing wings!

If I haven't figured it out by now, I'd might as well curl up and wait for the undertaker.

Ever heard of Paradigm Shifting? Try adopting a single belief that is exactly the opposite of what you believe now, I know it sounds hard, but give it a whirl. Make it something simple, or even silly. React as if it is what you truely believe... and convince yourself that you *do* truely believe. Do this for as long as it take - Try a month... You'll find that your sentiment is truer then what you first realized.

The ego is nothing more then a string of impressions collected together and given a name. The body itself is mostly space - there is more space within an atom then there is matter. Personally, I'm suprised that we all just don't fly apart at the seams.

There is no "I", there is no "You", there only is what will be. Once you let go of "I", then you have nothing to be afraid of. Fear is the most selfish emotion imaginable - while love is the most selfless.

You think love and hate are opposites? Let me convince you otherwise... is not hate caused by fear? :)

As your beliefs change, so do you. So I disagree with your statement.

What is a person (personality) other than a set of beliefs? We act upon what we believe (I am painting believe with a very broad brush). We are what we believe.

But not only what we believe: we're also memories, emotions, and immagination, don't you think?:)

Very true, I agree. But memories can be false, or mutated to match what we believe (I had a wonderful childhood, mommie never beat me). Emotions and immagination also branch off of our belief system.

Again, as they change (what we believe) so do we.

I am not sure I can agree with the statement in it's entirety. I know who I am.

While my belief system has changed greatly during the past year or so, intrinsically, I am still the same person.

And yes, some of the recent changes are at a direct 180 degrees from beliefs I had held for many years.

I am who I am, a compilation of experiences, genetics, emotions and needs.

I do believe we are always changing and growing, but the inner persona remains pretty much a constant.

MissTaken, I disagree, we want to believe that (no pun) because it makes us comfortable.

I will always be who I am. That simply is not true. but the inner persona remains pretty much a constant.

How would you know that? Are you the same person as you were at the age of 5, has your inner persona never changed? Of course it has. And it will continue to change. Most often it is not a drastic overnight type of change. But it happens over time.

If Tiger_n_NJ believes hard enough, and long enough, that he really is a Tiger... The hospitals are full of people like this. More of them walk the streets and interact with us daily.

I am not trying to upset anyone, or start any fights. Just stating my beliefs. I know I have changed quite a few times over the years. Based on changing circumstances and belief systems.

I'm going to disagree, too.

In fact, I think that you are exactly what you think and believe. You are mutable, no matter how hard you may wish not to be. Only you have the ability to change yourself and only you have the ability to define yourself. Only you have control over who and what you are.

There....I've said my piece. :)

how about this ... the person you think you are you arent ... because other people will see you differently to how you see yourself and they may just know you better then you do
