Kay Ryan is the new US Poet Laureate

That's cool. I like some of her stuff.

You guys don't know this but Champ is the Poet Laureate for Canada for perpetuity.

Shhh. It's a secret.

I'm dusting a spot off my mantle to mount the Order of Canada Medal plaque that I expect to get, if I ever get hired by the CBC...

Dusting?

Just build a new mantle when you get hired. Don't forget the little people in Ontario either when you do...

I like this one by Ryan. Reminds of Tzara in a way--simple imagery that echoes deeper on many levels. Can comment both on a personal level or in a larger societal way. Just like the mice poem that was not really about mice. Ahem.

ATLAS
Extreme exertion
isolates a person
from help,
discovered Atlas.
Once a certain
shoulder-to-burden
ratio collapses,
there is so little
others can do:
they can't
lend a hand
with Brazil
and not stand
on Peru.

Thank you for starting the thread, Tzara. I am really enjoying reading her poems. Going to have to order a book or two, I think. :)
