Katie Hobbs is stepping down temporarily as governor of Arizona this evening, state treasurer Kimberly Yee has revealed.

Yee, a Republican, will serve as acting governor until mid-morning on Friday. The reason has not been released and Hobbs has not commented on the move.
much speculation has ensued, as well as mockery from the usual suspects, but a move like this would suggest Gov.Hobbs may be undergoing some form of medical procedure under anesthetic and has gone through the correct motions to ensure her post is not left wanting. Of course it may be something else, but the most obvious explanation is often the correct one.

Ms Yee announced:
"I have been notified that I will be serving as Acting Governor beginning later this evening until mid-morning tomorrow.

"While I am pleased to step into this role, I will refrain from naming directors to the 13 agencies that currently have vacancies and will not call the Arizona Legislature into session to confirm them."

The facts are that Yee is fourth in command to step in as Governor, and the three in front of her are all out of the state at the same time. This has to do with Yee refusing to allow Hobb's "Executive Deputy Directors" to sit at a planning meeting, and Yee says she will not exercise her powers in the Governor's absence. Nothing out order or out of bounds. Just media fodder
