Karen Kraft's Giant Tomato Plant Seed Requests

Karen Kraft said:
Those of you who had just recently sent a SASE requesting tomato plant seeds to me at:

(ADDRESS REDACTED)

should know that the seeds are processed and ready to be sent out, but that I am off to Nevada for a week, then Kansas City and St. Louis, but I will be back in L.A. (where the post box is) by the end of September. I will check for seed request envelopes and will send them out then.

There really is no hurry, since these seeds should be started indoors between Thanksgiving and Christmas and they take so long to germinate that it won't be a problem for next season's tomatoes. So, if you want some of the seeds, send your self-addressed-stamped-envelope this week or next and I will put them in the mail back to you before October 1st. These are hybrid tomato plants my dad and I developed over the past two years and only about 10% of them germinate. Then they are very slow to grow until all of a sudden they start getting huge and producing a whole lot of tomatoes.

They are really good, old-fashioned tomatoes (but larger than average heirloom varieties from which we developed the hybrid) and are very sweet, juicy, meaty, with not a whole lot of seeds.

Calabasas? I thought you were in LA.

There basically IS no such place as "Los Angeles," except for downtown. Every section has its own "community name" whether it is a city or not. Calabasas in actually its own city in Greater Los Angeles.

People don't live in "Los Angeles;" they live in Venice, Mid-Wilshre, Hancock Park, Topanga, Miracle Mile, San Pedro, Mount Washington, Silver Lake, Echo Park, Lake View Terrace, and so on. All are in the City of Los Angeles. The city has about four million residents, or about 10% of the residents in the State of California.

I mostly live in Las Vegas (that's in Nevada, Mechy) but I come to L.A. at least once a week. The Post Office Box (owned by my boss) is in Calabasas because it has a lobby where you can get your mail in the middle of the night (no locked doors after hours, etc., ) and there are almost no lines for buying stamps and stuff.

Well, anyway, it was a long, nasty drive today and I have to go back on the 12th again.

I'm sleepy.

Nite all.

You're really making me wish I had garden space...

Large deep pots, MiracleGrow potting soil. It works just fine so long as the pot is three feet all or so.

I'm a man who appreciates a well grown tomato. I salute you.

Poppycock. 8 million people live in Los Angeles.

Nah. Only the census people think so. People who live here know the name of the place they live, and none of them call it "Los Angeles." If someone from out-of-state (including those strange people from "Northern" California) ask where you live, you simply say, "L.A." However, if someone within 50 miles of the Megalopolis asks, and you say, "L.A.," to local ears it would be the same as answering "In the United States." = Insufficient information.

On-topic: Still time to send your Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope to me for some tomato plant seeds for next season. I've sent out quite a few so far, but we have a lot left.

Anyway, Mechy, I do like Poppycock a great deal:

Hmmmm. *disappointed frown*

To be offended, one would think, you would have to be, at least a little bit, surprised. But for the "as always" comment, I was beginning to think you might have suspected otherwise from them (it). Comforted to know that's not the case.

But for is a legal argument I am all too familiar with.

And yes, it wasn't surprising to me.. until I saw "life sentence" attached to a guy who sold pot seeds.

"But-for" is a legal argument with which I am quite familiar.
