Justice Department seeking lawyers with ‘mental retardation’

Some time back, I was working for a defense firm and I had to go to a small town, near a field operation for the company. I was having supper after a day's work, when a guy walked into the little cafe and asked one of the 'old timers,' "Do they have a criminal attorney in this town?" One of the old timers told him, "We think so, but they ain t caught him yet."

Maybe the attorney in question went to Washington and is now doing recruiting for the government.

It'll be a nice break from the usual morally retarded ones.

I worked closely with lawyers for many years and I'm convinced that anyone can get in or out of law school. I used to sit in the courtroom and observe lawyers hang out together before court; I've seen homeless bums dress better.

But excellent lawyers all have the same things in common...theyre polite, speak calmly, listen more than they talk, tone down the dress, and are friendly. If your lawyer wears boots or cowboy hat or glows in the dark or is loud...get another lawyer.

Surely this might not apply to certain Western States?

Yet another example of the government's 'politically correct' idiocy gone rampant; hiring people to fill abstract quotas rather than the most qualified. This is yet another example of the all beneficent government so many people are willing to entrust their very existence to. I for one cannot imagine why.

Can you imagine being defended by a mental deficient ?

Over here we call them 'Public Defenders'...they're sort of a social worker with a law degree. They arrive brimming with idealisim, burn out fairly quickly and either remain as cynical drones or leave to become junior partners in law firms specializing in rake injuries.

Remove Congress and there would be no progress. We'd still have children working in sweatshops, and a Love Canal in every county in the USA. Wasn't it Congress that gave us public education - the building block of America's Industrial Revolution? Wasn't it Congress that gave us the Interstate highway system? Wasn't it Congress that did away with the Jim Crow voting laws?

I may not be an expert on the minutiae of American history, but I do know a bogus, empty Fox News slogan when I see one. Shouldn't you be adding your two cents over at the "Clever Republicans" thread, TE99?

Now, back to your "I hate government, and retards" thread.

ETA: For all you entitlement-haters out there, what would be your solution for dealing with the handicapped? On the one hand, you don't want the government enacting "socialist" programs to help the disadvantaged, on the other hand, when the disadvantaged try to go out and make it on their own, without government help, you ridicule them.

Well? Obviously you have a better idea. What is it?

Don't hold back. Let us know what you really think...if you can call that thinking.

Firstly, you assume I get all my information from, or am influenced by, the infamous Fox News...wrong.

Secondly, you assume I hate government and, as you so delicately put it, 'retards'...wrong again.

Thirdly, I ridicule no one that doesn't deserve it, which does not include anyone who honestly tries to better themselves, but does include idiots like you whose idea of a discussion is to spew vituperation, assumed generalities and hatred for anyone who you disagree with.

When and if you learn the basics of intelligible discourse look me up...on second thought, don't...I don't have that kind of time. ;)

DeeZire takes every opportunity to raise the pink flag for collectivism, I feel compelled to rebut...TE999 made the excellent point about the injustice of a 'quota' system of government, a misguided effort to impose 'equality' on society, merit be damned. One only has to look at previous collectivist states unable to even feed their own, to discount the 'quota' system as foolish.

The only way Congress, the government in general, aids progress, is when they get out of the way. The myriad laws, rules, regulations and restrictions, plus paying for the idiots in the Capitols, Federal and State to enforce them, only restrict progress and add to the cost of doing business. Congress, the government adds absolutely nothing to the economy in any way and indeed is harmful in most ways.

"Children in Sweatshops", an old red herring that few have the courage to depend on anymore as it is and was all a fabrication perpetrated by Union activists and anti industrial newspapers. Perhaps DeeZire would permit his/her offspring to labor in sweatshops, buta caring parent would not.

It may come as some surprise to the cause blinded DeeZire, but the Love Canal and all dump sites, toxic or not, were and are licensed by GOVERNMENT!

To the degree that the Federal Department of Education, the State Departments of Education and the local Unionized Teachers have added to the Education system in the USA, is to make it the WORST, #29, among all industrialized countries.

The InterState Highway system was the brainchild of Eisenhower who was impressed with Nazi Germany's 'Autobahn', created by Hitler to quickly move military equipment so he could invade Europe. It is only because the roads and highways of America are controlled by government that we put up with the potholes and shifting roadbeds; were the roads managed by Private Enterprise, the free market, people would get what they paid for and have recourse if not.

"Jim Crow"...why not look at the entire Civil Rights movement and the Welfare State Environment provided African Americans. Like the Native American population, care and feeding by the Federal Government has destroyed both.

Ahh.. I must bring this to a close..."24" is just coming on and I want to watch Jack Bauer waste a few dozen Ragheads....(heh);)

Congress may have ended or instituted the things you mention, but it was not until a great uproar of the people forced them to do so. If it were up to most individual members, they would spend all their time colledfcting fat paychecks, boozing and fucking their interns and others who work for them. :(

Can we all agree that "Politics" is just theater and that our "politicians" are just actors in the play speaking the lines written by their masters?

These qualifications must be left overs from the Bush Administration. How else do you explain the hiring of John Ashcroft and Alberto Gonzales?:D:D

On the serious side, there is a purpose for the qualifications--to prevent lawsuits from candidates denied a right to apply.

Sure let everyone apply, blind, crippled or Crazy and then they will pick the most qualified nephew of a Congresscritter.:D

You're the one who added this to the discussion:

Now it's my turn to say "Don't hold back. Let us know what you really think...if you can call that thinking."

If you're concerned about "intelligible discourse", then why did you post this:

Over here we call them 'Public Defenders'...they're sort of a social worker with a law degree. They arrive brimming with idealisim, burn out fairly quickly and either remain as cynical drones or leave to become junior partners in law firms specializing in rake injuries.

which looks a lot like one of those "assumed generalities" you accused me of using.

Really, TE99, if "intelligible discourse" is your goal, you appear to be going about it ass-backwards.

...

The current UK Labour government is trying to enact draconian equality laws before the next election. They can't afford to pay for the implementation of them but they think they'll be a vote winner...

Should I not have added to this discussion if I disagree with you? What monumental arrogance. Brooking no opposition is a sure sign of a weak argument.

That comment about Public Defenders falls under the category of cynical humor not discourse...I'm sorry you cannot differentiate between the two.

The day when you can post without repeatedly defaming those who disagree with you is the day you'll achieve true 'intelligible discourse'.

That's TE999 by the way.

Sort of like you, over in Ami's White Pen thread?

Obviously, taking you (and Zeb) off ignore was my mistake.

Bye now.:)

I get the feeling DeeZire doesn't like me anymore...sighs....and I try so to please...;)
