Dude, there ain't no such-a-thing as 'God'. Man made that up too, though nobody knows why. Maybe to answer the why questions when they can't come up with anything rational.
Now for a real question .....
Who decided that reed, read and reid should all be pronounced the same way? Or that read and red should be?

I'm not going to try to convince you that you that the god that gets the big "GOD" is real.
When ancient peoples wanted to navigate water or across featureless land, they used the position of the Sun and Stars.
The rising and setting of the Sun roughly defined East and West.
Many of the stars moved, but they noticed Polaris stayed in the same position at right angles to the movement of the Sun. The star Polaris defined 'North' whatever they called it at the time. Turning around so that Polaris was behind you defined 'South'.
The magnetic compass came much later but even early navigators using a magnetic compass became aware that it didn't point exactly North and South, and could be unreliable if Iron Ore was nearby.
That all sounds great. But who decided the sun rising and setting defined east and west? So are we back to square one? Maybe just a simple thing as going from here to there.

This thread is approaching National Lampoon Status.
Who decided to call East east and not West or Flubar?
Why doesn't the Sun rise in Flubar and set in Antigar?

It's all arbitrary and traditional, like USA fuel pricing in 9/10 cents. But I digress.
We know the words for directions evolved variously in different languages. But what about the very concept of directions? I've heard that some languages only count "one, two, many..." -- no other numbers are used. Are there languages and cultures lacking anything like cardinal directions? That don't even distinguish dawn-ward from dusk-ward?
