I've just posted my first story to Lit - "Waiting on the chef".

I was just wondering what is considered a good rating/vote count? Are certain categories less likely to get comments?

I'm not really worried about trying to get top lists, etc. Though obviously I want to know people have enjoyed reading my stories, and will aim to make them as good as I can.

Just wanting to say hi, and get a little insight into what to expect :)

That main things to ask yourself is did you have fun writing your story and are you proud of the way it turned out?

I wouldn't stress over votes and comments. It's really immaterial. I've read stories on this site that were 3.0 and had zero comments that were really great, and I've read stories that were 4.5 or better with a lot of comments that I thought were a complete waste of time reading.🙀

Thanks Kantarii. I definitely enjoy writing them and am happy with this story. Though it's a few years old and there's some things I'd have done differently if I'd written it now. I'm looking forward to getting the rest of my writing on here and making it available to read. Been reading this website for about 15 years now, and it feels good to be putting something into it.

Ha, not after feedback for the story itself (that's what comments are for right?), just what I should expect and what I shouldn't now I've posted something :)

Welcome to the madhouse.

Views vary greatly among the categories. Votes average around one in a hundred. Comments are a whole other story. Some stories draw large numbers and some none at all. Categories have a lot to do with the number of comments. If you are looking for comments to help you improve, I doubt you will get many. None of us do.

If you want comments like that go to the feedback forum and open a thread. Be sure and post a link. A link here would help also.
