Yes, that title is sarcasm.

A couple in San Antonio, Texas, is accused of trying to trade sex with the woman's five-year-old daughter for an apartment, a used car and child care for her 10-month old daughter.

Jennifer Richards, 25, and her married boyfriend, Sean Michael Block, 40, appeared before US Magistrate Judge Nancy Stein Nowak on Friday. Richards is charged with using interstate facilities to transmit information about a minor. Block is charged with distributing child pornography.

[After reviewing computers the couple used and listening to taped conversations, Miller determined Block and Richards were making further plans to abduct, rape and "carve up" a teenage runaway.]

If I were a lawer for either or both of the couple, I would try to get them off by arguing that they were not really humans.

Yeah, I do regard them as human. Sticking them in a separate category is another way of ignoring evil.

Or, as the people here who are advocating a painful death to the people in the article show, of facilitating another kind of evil.

This sort of shit is common. You guys dont get out much.

Horrible but conviction not assured yet

If you examine the headline and then the actual charges there appears to be a "seriousness" gap. By that I mean that they discussed or appeared to think about doing even more serious offences than they actually did.

My guess is that these are just holding charges. The police will be hoping to nail them but obviously had to intervene before the most serious contemplated offence was committed. Very difficult to run a successful prosecution of the most serious charges but if the evidence is there we can only hope the defendants will have to deal with the full force of the law.

We are often critical of prosecutorial officials but it is very difficult to get convictions for what people are thinking of doing . Their probable defence will be something along the lines "it was just a game , a fantasy , we would never have actually done it " Very tough for the prosecution to prove otherwise.

Very true. In 20 years I lost only one trial, because I went after the cases where the evidence was overwhelming. If the facts arent there the case is a waste of time because nothing happens....plus double jeopardy restrictions if you try and do it again. People dont like this scheme because they believe youre discounting the risks and flirting with disaster, but my way convicted lots of scumbags even if some targets got away.

Min just read out this headline to me, we were both speechless. What can you say in the face of such evil.

As for the comment that 'this shit happens all the time', is that supposed to make it OK? I'm glad I'm part of a community, where, even with our liberal attitudes, we can still be shocked.

Sorry, ladies and gents, they are you. One day, you may grow up and come to terms with it.

Children

There are already two major losers, the children. Whatever justice is meted out to their mother those children have lost her, probably permanently. It may seem unlikely but they probably love her as only a child can.

It's right to be appalled and easy to hate the parents but at this moment I mostly hope those two children find love somewhere, though they will be crying tonight.:)

We don't have to look as far as Texas to find similar acts of evil.

There have been two "sell the kids to paedophiles" rings within ten miles of where I live. Both are now history but I wouldn't bet that there aren't more parents locally who have taken over the lucrative trade. :(

Its like death, when youve seen enough of it it fails to shock you anymore. I suspect most dogs get better care than most kids.

I agree totally. People may feel anger or lust of revenge, but law must always look out for everyone's rights. Some people seem reluctant to agree with this.

They are NOT me! I often deal harshly with people. However, I don't try to force five-year-olds to offer themselves sexually to anyone. I also don't accept the idea that anyone, most definitely including parents, has a right to force five-year-olds to offer themselves sexually.

A typical five-year-old isn't capable of supporting itself. Thus, it's at the mercy of its parents. Anyone who believes that a parent has the right to force a five-year-old child to offer itself sexually lives in a different world than I do.

A fully functional adult is responsible for his/her/its actions. [Severely mentally retarded/insane people are not fully functional adults.]
