Finally got to the end of SyFy's Van Helsing series tonight, particularly the penultimate Crooked Falls (Season 2 Episode 12). I cannot unsee what I saw.
They went and fucking killed Lucky.
Any of you idiots who've read anything I've written in the last 5 years know exactly why I fucking shed actual tears when she blew herself up with a grenade.
For those who haven't figured it out - well, Lucky was a shining example of strength, female chivalry and egalitarianism, even if she wasn't a total THUG LIFE BADASS like Vanessa Van Helsing. She was everything a man should want in a mortal woman. She didn't even care if her companion, Flesh, wasn't a He-Man Masters of the Universe vampire slayer. All she cared about was he was a man of rock strong character and that was all she needed to fall in love with this dude.
Don't get me wrong, Vanessa Van Helsing is by far one of the coolest junkyard dog heroes I've ever seen on TV, but Lucky was strong in her heart. Even among ride-or-die women she was a giant. Moreso in character than stature. Only one person in the series knows exactly what humanity lost when that grenade went off.
And don't gimme that "it's just a show" bullshit - I know half of everyone who logged into here has lost it worse than I ever will over a show character that died. (Game of Thrones fans I am looking squarely at you.) But man, that really stung. Like a bullet ant biting my chest.
RIP, Lucky. Vampires meet the sun and super volcano eruptions eventually clear, but it was the loss of this vastly superior specimen of woman from the gene pool which humanity will find hardest to recover from.
