It has dawned on me that I would rather be shot to death than bored to death

Try working out the number of hours you have left on this old world - knock off some for illness , old age , - it is not a lot.

Many of us I am sure ( I ceratinly do ) probaly sit and dream of what we would like to do - then go back to te same old shit , work , mortagage , taxes bla de bla

How many of us really take the plunge , take the risk to follow a dream or do something that they really want to do but either dont have the bottle.

I know it is not as easy as that - but I have a dream of movinng to the Cape - building a house there , starting a small business and living my life slowly in the sun ,

My old man is there already and my Brother has got money down on a plot - 50 grand sterling will get you a 4 bed house easy in parts of the Cape .

Will I do it - maybe . I hope I do

I will oneday.....I always had a dream of living on the beach and selling windchimes for a living. I know sounds stupid and very unwise from a money stand point but thats what I want to do and hubby said once we get our son outa high school and off to college or something we will do just that live on a beach like hippies and I can do whatever I want to or don't want to. I am thinking the Fl Keys is looking pretty good and living the local life there is how I will spend my old age *sigh* riding a scooter and listening to jimmy buffett and just chilling all the time watching the world go by. :nana:

But that is the point there is always a when , and a once we do this ..............

I dont want to be too old before I do it - I want to be young enough to enjoy it etc

Sometimes I get so pissed off with this country - the bullshit, the rain, the dog eat dog attitude , the striving to get the lates car, the newest widescreen, etc etc

I want to go now !!

Go for it Gord! I'm looking to buy property in the mountains of Tennessee, I'm going there this summer and find my dream! I'm not getting any younger and I want to do something that will give me satisfaction and contentment!

Well we won't be old when we do it and I also get tired of the rat race but in the grand scheme of things I can't make my child live my dream he must have his own so until he is gone off to where ever life leads him I am mom first and foremost we go to the beach ALL the time so he knows in 4 yrs where to find me besides gonna take me that long to design the dream house. And JL is right "go for it" life is way to short and nothing is a given could be here today gone tomorrow. :nana:

Local life in the Keys, especially Key West is not as ideal as the travel agents would have you think. I lived on a sailboat up and down the Keys 20 years ago and it was a good life... but have you been there lately? Once again, too many people, commercialism, tourist traps have ruined it... But there are a few pockets yet untouched. Hope you find one!

It's not about where you are, it's about who you are. Just because the predominant values of your society (as you see it) are materialistic, doesn't mean you have to participate. Wherever you go, pole to pole, there will be some people who are miserable, and some who are content. Happiness doesn't come from outside of you, you know.

Evening Gord, it's been ages since I spoke to you last. I hope you're doing well (beyond the frustration).

I had a conversation with my husband a couple of days ago about being practical versus taking risks. His father is the most practical, logical man you could ever meet, and my husband followed in his footsteps. Until recently, that is. Hubby said something which I found pretty wise: the thing you don't realize when you live a practical life is that when you take risks, you open yourself up to all kinds of new possibilities and opportunities that never would have been there if you hadn't. It jogs you back to life.

Sometimes we get stuck for more reasons than materialism, and we play the waiting game because we have responsibilities. That's not such a bad thing, as long as you can hold on to your dream. So if you're finding it impossible to move now, then take little steps to insure you don't lose your hope--save up some pennies (ooooops should that be shillings?) for that house, job hunt in that area, extricate yourself from keeping up with the Joneses materially so that you're unfettered when the time is right to go.

Which cape are you talking about?

Bon chance,
Lioness

Hi there Lioness -

The key thing to having dreams I suppose is to have a plan to make that dream a reality - I have been guilty in the past of living for today - ie if I had cash then I would spend it - and go on holidays, etc

I am in my late 30's now and I certainly want to be out of the fast lane in the next 5 to 10 years -

I want to go for it now , but I want to be sure I have enough funds etc - but every day past is another day lost sitting oin the sun - watching the wave s and having a chilled glass of South African chardonnay !!:D

The Cape is the Cape of Africa - about 60 miles West of Cape Town, where the two oceans meet. It is a beautifull world

life is short

time flies

follow your heart....

and bring a change of underwear:D

it take a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry.
