Hellooo, anybody out there to help me?

After reading al the How To's and lots of threads all over the Discussion Board, I still have questions without answers.

I started writing about two years ago, because I suddenly had this sf-story inside my head. Something like an infection. I had no idea where it came from but it was growing fast and in no time at all it was eating up all my attention. But still just a new hobby, for me alone and nobody else.

Searching for help when I got stuck, I ended up at Literotica and after reading a lot of stories and the HT's, I kind of dared myself to write something erotic. I never thought to become a real writer, I just did it for fun and kicks.

To my immense surprise (and delight) my story was accepted right away and even had that cute red H beside it. For a while that is. That's when I started thinking again. Maybe I really could do this. So then I needed to look at it more seriously. And that's where my problems started.

I got good advice from readers/authors and tried to edit my story. But I think my main problem is: show not tell.
English is not my own language and in my country writing is treated as ART.
Certainly not something you can learn or train for/in.

I'm sure my writing could use an editor with regard to grammar, choice of words maybe, looking for inconsistencies and the likes. But: can you ask an editor to spot show/tell?

I know there is a workshop, but that requires my reviewing somebody else's work. Talk about presumptuous.
And writing classes do not exist in my own swamp by the sea, at least not that I know of. :(

Dear Abby, what can I do?

Yes, you can ask an editor to do that, and some will do it without you asking. The problem is going to be finding an editor that is good at spotting that kind of thing.

Maybe help is here . . .

Black Tulip, as a duly registered Literotica editor, I'd be glad to give your copy a read. It's been my pleasure to work with several folks who have English as a second -- or third -- language. So far they've been happy with suggestions and I'm willing to work beyond mere mechanics if you wish.

Look me up for contact in the editor's listing.

:D

Well what do you know.
I should have advertised myself sooner in this way.
Now I have gentlemen knocking at my door!

In cyberspace that is. ;)
