For non-humans, anything goes as long as they're sapient, right? Aliens, werewolves, shapeshifters, furries, anything?

Plants don't even have to be intelligent, just horny. The non-beastiality clause seems only to apply to non-sapient, motile life forms.

I wonder if this is true for actual animals.

Anybody want to write a hot story about a hyperintelligent giraffe and see if it gets rejected?

I doubt that any intelligent version of a real animal is going to fly. Getting your freak on with Morris from the cat food commercials or Mr. Ed is still a real animal that you could find in a barnyard or a zoo. It just happens to be able to talk ( and probably scream "What the hell are you doing to me!" )

I'd say you're probably going to get rejected for anything that isn't primarily humanoid with animal elements ( werewolf, mermaid ). The occasional unicorn and tentacle monster may pass muster, but I doubt you're going to get a giant squid with an English accent in as a "tentacle monster"

If you were to draw a picture of it and it looks like someone doing a real, recognizable animal, adding speech balloons isn't going to cut it.

If it's a changeling, such as a werewolf, I would think the human part would have to be at least 18. Any humans involved also have to be at least 18. :D What is a furry? If it is a human who likes sex while dresed in an animal costume, the person must be at least 18. I would think that would be a fetish rather than non-human.

Did you ever see the Thundercats cartoon? That's furries.

(I've actually seen fanfic porn of this. Cheetara really made an impression upon some impressionable youth *laugh* Robot Chicken even did a spoof of it, which has frightening resemblance to the fanfics near the end where Cheetara is "bathing" http://www.videosift.com/video/Thundercats-Robot-Chicken )

I was referring to a more literal interpretation of furry, as in an actual creature (with alien, fantastical, or unknown origins) that is basically an anthropomorphic animal. I wasn't actually planning to write a furry fic, but I was just curious.

Edit: Since you brought up the 18 rule, I was wondering something. This rule doesn't apply to robots or artificially created beings that appear and act like adults, does it? Say, a man, a lonely, nerdy man, builds a robot, and programs her to be his companion. He builds her to look like a adult woman, and programs her with adult mannerisms. He doesn't have to wait eighteen years to "get served" by his robotic companion, does he? Seems a bit impractical, considering she's a robot, and not at all what the 18+ rule was designed for in the first place. Also, don't turn this into an argument about the 18 rule for humans, which is in place for good reason.

My take is that so long as the creature is intelligent, it fits the non-human category and is allowable. Now why a furry, intelligent animal should get all hot and bothered over us bald human types is a whole other question. :D

Actually, no it doesn't mean "anything goes."

I think the principle of Lit's policy about daddy-daughter under-age role-play would apply to non-humans with animal forms:

"If a scene can be taken out of context and be indistinguishable from underage sex, then it will be rejected as underage sex."

If your furry/were/alien/shapechanger/et al sex scenes are indistinguishable from bestiality, I'm pretty sure it will be rejected as if the whole story were bestiality.

I think Shanglan really pushed the envelope on at least one of his.

Welcome to the AH, Eros. :D

One of my main characters in 'Huntress of the Galaxy' Ch. 01 & 02 is Sith, a feline humanoid. He's quite furry. ;)

A related question - In a fan fic story or satire, could I mention that Jessica Alba is busy doing a dolphin? I wouldn't be going into detail about what she's actually doing to the dolphin, (or what the dolphin is doing to her.) It would just be mentioned in passing. She could be doing the dolphin's toenails, for all the reader knows.

A sex toy, even a complicated one like a robot, would not have any age restriction on it.

In Dec. of last year, I posted a story "Little Mandy and Her Daddy" about father/daughter incest. She was 20 yo, but they role-played she was about eight. It was accepted. A month later, I submitted a similar story about the same two people and it was rejected under the under 18 rule.

I have three stories about a unicorn and a woman and one about a werewolf and a woman. If you snip individual paragraphs out of the stories, they would be indistinguishable from bestiality stories involving a horse or a dog and a woman. At the same time, I have frequent references in both stories about what kind of creature is actually involved.

As I understand what Laurel said in the policy statement, individual paragraphs aren't a problem, entire scenes are.

The intent, I believe, was to close a loophole that too many people were using to circumvent the age restriction (and other restrictions.)

This is one of those subjective judgements that depends as much on quality of the writing as it does the actual content and longtime/prolific posters who have a history of abiding by the spirit of the restrictions tend to get the benefit of the doubt while new posters making a feeble attempt to pass off an underage sex story with a paragraph or two of framing to make it role-playing story instead of an underage incest story don't.

Individual paragraphs probably aren't the issue. If the scene with the sex, cut out of the story, can't be distinguished from underage sex, then that's the problem.

We're going to roleplay
Sex
Sex
Sex
Sex
Role-playing was fun

That will probably fail to pass muster, because you can cut out the bookends and read it as an underage scene.

We're going to roleplay
Sex
It's turning me on so much to act young
Sex
Sex
For just a second, I feel as young and vulnerable as I'm acting
Sex
Role-playing was fun

That will make it ( I know, because I wrote one similar, and purposely pointed out the scene in the moderator notes before submitting. It's also been edited, and the scene pointed out the second time as well )

What about putting a human brain in an animal? Does that now fall in or out of the rules?

In dark's example, substitue "let's swap these brains" for "we're going to roleplay" and "bestiality" for "underage." Even then, you're going to have to write it well enough that it can't be clipped and misrepresented as bestiality.
