I was just wondering if anyone here partakes in the joys of online gaming? I'm talking about the biggie, fantasy types, ie: The Realm, UO, EverQuest, Asheron's Call, etc. I've probably tried most of em, have any of you? And if you have, which was/is your favorite? :)

Also, if anyone out there can tell me where to find the third piece of glass in the PS2's "Summoner" rpg, I'd be forever grateful! :D

I played EQ for awhile when it came out. But I've been playing this game called DragonRealms since 96 and I still play it. Let me find out there are other MUD/MUSH/RPG fiends on the board...

Angel

I am. Love a couple of them. Hate quite a few. Some are downright impossible to play in, and some I would join then the "in" clique would kill off my character. That is the chief reason I play in the Online Role Play area here.

I play EQ... love it... it is my reward to myself for working my ass off, volunteering and being a student... dammit I'm not getting sex... need to let go somewhere right?

I spend a good deal of my time on there flirting. hehe

I never really enjoyed EQ. I quit Dragonrealms for a bit to try it, and I guess it just wasn't for me. I always go back to dragonrealms LOL. It's all text based, and I guess the graphical orientation of EQ just wasn't for me. I will play Dragonrealms until 1) I am too broke or 2) It dies.

I used to play in a MUDish game called Monarchy. You know the kind where they reset it every 3 months or so? It was fun the first few times, but kinda got boring after a while since nothing was permanent and building a kingdom was not as fun when it kept getting torn down.

I've been on The Realm since it was in beta, and it's the only one I've stuck with because it's so easy to master and not as vast as the others. I loved EQ, but it was so big, I kinda got lost before I ever really figured it all out. UO annoyed me and AC was okay. I am really looking forward to seeing what Anarchy Online comes out with...it looks AMAZING!

I've tried some MUDs and stuff, but nothing has ever compared to the fun I have RPing in the roleplaying room at the chat site I work for, The Park. (http://www.the-park.com/ .. Shameless plug, I know.)

It's true though.. I've never been able to get into it anywhere else.

I played Dragonrealms for awhile, but then I quit when they started charging. I moved on to Gemstone III, which I maintain is the bestest online game of all time. There is just so much stuff to buy! However, Gemstone III is more addictive than crack, and I had to quit so as to not flunk out of college.

I played Gemstone III for two plus years, heavily addicted. Pyper, did you know me? My main character was Lady Terrenth, empath, singer, member of House of Aspis. My name is on a trophy in the Wehnimer's Museum. :) Maybe you knew Terrenth's husband, Lord Jadaard?

Pyper who were you in Dragonrealms?!?! I played Gemstone until DR came out heheh.

Odd to see that other fellow literoticans are Simutronics fans as well ;)

Either of you ever go to a Simucon?!

Neverwinter Nights

Hey for all of the AD and D fans, there is going to be a new game coming out soon called Neverwinter Nights.. it looks like it will be great because it is going to be more like the old P&P ADandD. Here is the URL for the offical game site, check it out.

Just a thought.. it is by the same guys that made Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2... both are super kick ass games.

Mud addict

I've mudded since it started pretty much. Before muds came out there were some online bbs games like crossroads and lands I, II and III etc. The best muds I've played were Three Kingdoms and Muddog. Muds are scary. There are many players that have spent more then 3 years worth of time online in the last 7 years or so. It is extremely addictive and has ruined quite a few peoples lives. They have alot of new graphical muds like EQ etc out now. Plus the game systems are finaly getting involved. Phantasy Star Online is out for the Dreamcast now. I have heard good things about it. It will probably be even bigger then EQ fairly soon. And i'm sure the other systems will follow suit pretty fast.

Anyway I've played most of the muds out there over the years and was fairly well known on them. My main characters name on most muds was wolfen or wulfen....I was also known by drizzit on a few. I think mudding is going to die fairly soon tho with all the graphical games like diablo II etc out there. Why play a text only game when you can have the same thing with graphics?

But anyway now that I'm married no more time for all that. With Siren's Literotica addiction I'm lucky if I get to freaking see my computer anymore. *grin*

text vs graphic

Well the best text based games rule mainly because they never end. If you had a good graphical game that never ended I'm not sure if it would be as fun or not. Since they havn't made one yet. I know some people think EQ is like that but it really isn't. Muds or text based games require alot more thinking and memorization. You have to generally use your mind alot more then in a graphical game. Not to mention that you can talk to 20 million people at once. The speed of the text based games is also faster. Once graphical games catch up with all that or incoporate text into the graphics so that you have the best of both worlds tho I think the old text games are gonna go bye bye unfortunately. Some have massive history tho and people who have known eachother and played with eachother (non-sexually for the most part) for years. Marriages have started from muds and massive parties are held every year for most of them. So it will be really sad if they ever do disappear. For now I'd choose 3k or muddog over any graphical game i've played ever. I have over 2 years time invested in 3k and have never played a graphical game over 2 weeks worth of time if near that long.

Blah Blah Blah....

:p
