Well ... since we apparently haven't had a writing thread in quite some time (at least not to my knowledge :D ) and I haven't started a thread for quite some time (of that I am fairly certain :D ) ... I thought I'd share my amazement of some things.

In the last roughly 17 hrs I had my very own Write-A-thon. From around 2.30 am (local german time) til about 5.30 pm I did little else than just write. I tried to force myself to sit down and write a story or a part of it, more than the 100 words here and there. Well ... little did I know that about 15 hours later I had 11.630 word monster staring back at me from the screen. And the scary part is ... I haven't even finished one third of the supposed storyline with those nearly 12k words.

All my previous finished stories you can find on Lit ... thats right, 3 finished and published stories in my whole career. There are no more stories than those two (and the one translation), which I have finished ... Porn and non-Porn. There are about 3-4 Alpha-Drafts of stories on my desktop. About 10-20 started stories and literally dozens of Ideas. Again ... Porn (most of them) and non-Porn.

And now, out of the blue I have written that monster ... which is, like I said, not even a third of the storyline. I am quite amazed, that I am even capable of writing that much for one story, let alone in such a short amount of time.

And I guess what the point is of this thread ... has anybody else experienced such a writing frenzy? I have definitly seen it in the recent NaNoWriMo. Colleen Thomas was it I believe who wrote double that in the same time or even less.

Have you started a story which was supposed to be a neat two-part short story and it gotten so out of hand?

And what is even more scary ... With the last alpha-drafts of stories I wasn't satisfied at all. While writing them I knew I had to edit certain parts, because they were just bad. With this one I haven't had much of those moments. Most of what I wrote I actually kind of liked the first time around (which doesn't mean I won't edit this one heavily).

I know this all sounds a little confused ... but that actually describes my current mood pretty good.

So now ... post away (or flame away if you want).

I'm just gonna chime in with a :nana:

:D

Great going, CA!

I love writing in the dead of night and usually find I'm at my most productive then. In fact, so much so, I've considered going nocturnal a few times. I've never sat down and written that much in one hit, but I have consistently written 2,000 - 5,000 words, day after day. The two NaNo's I've completed aren't the only times I've done that.

Keep at it! Maintain that forward momentum. ;)

Lou

I usually have the opposite problem, to stop writing a really interesting aside/subplot and get back to the proper story.

Even my very first attempt on Lit had me going into explanations of the situation by writing an inner story/flashback type deal.

The main things that stop me writing are

1 the need to pee and
2 the need to drink tea

Then of course it's a goto 1 program loop.

Fortunately the break makes me then re-read what I've just written, edit it, then carry on, which also fortunately means very little editing, if any, after I write The End.

Comforting to know I'm not the only one, Lou. Don't know what it is about night, but I feel so creative when I know that everyone else is sleeping. Nothing like nipping out into the back garden for a sneaky smoke, running through the current storyline in my head. One of these days I swear I'll go nocturnal - just for a month - to see how it feels

The 2003 NaNo effort, now posted as the 12 part Flawed Red Silk, was my burst of frantic activity. I completed the whole 50,000 words in 18 days.

Occasionally I get 'the burn' and write in the early hours. Much of the later parts turn out to be rubbish and get deleted on the first edit or the whole story is consigned to the 'sometime/never' folder. There are 100,000 words there waiting for me to get round to finishing or finally abandoning the 30 odd stories.

Then there is the 'current drafts' folder. I have hopes for some of them: sequels, prequels or even consolidations of existing works. Once I open one of those drafts it may be many hours and many cups of coffee before I save the expanded version (with back-ups every 5 minutes - I've lost too much to crashes).

Longest continuous session so far excluding toilet and coffee-making breaks was 10 hours. I rarely get that much uninterrupted time.

Well ... scrap that one ... I just reread it and it definitly needs heavy editing ... *sigh* why can't it be perfect the first time around.
