I know that I will be slammed from all sides but... here is a thought!

ALL politicians should be paid at the average wage of ALL workers in the country concerned.
They should automatically have to separate themselves from ALL financial interests in ALL businesses - sell shares, for example, to demonstrate that, as the phrase goes, they are governing "for the people, by the people" and are now swayed by the interests of the business in which they hold shares.
Lobbying groups should be completely banned from all political arenas.
Election campaign costs should be limited to the average wage in the country concerned.
ALL Politicians are banned from engaging in ANY financial dealings with any business with more that 100 employees for the entirety of the time during which they hold office.
The Western political system is riddled with self-interested & power-hungry "politicians", sycophants and people whose sole aim is to further the cause of the corporation sponsoring them.
If any of us want government "for the people, by the people", for example, isn't it time that we make our demands known?
For the sake of this thread, in some respects my politics are far to the left of Marx and Lenin and, in other areas, far to the right of Gengis Khan... and do NOT get me started on "crime and punishment" !!!
I have absolutely no faith that anyone taking office in any western government nowadays is there for the needs of their people. The vast majority of them are there purely for their own self esteem and enrichment!
So, make being a politician a job that attracts a maximum amount of money and make every politician, irrespective of their alignment to a party, accountable for the results within their own local area (whether that be a constituency in Europe or a state within the US) and make their immediate removal from office if they are not actively engaged in the effective and demonstrable improvement of the lives of those people an instant and irreversible consequence!
