hello everyone!

i was just wondering where i might find a website that posts authentic poetry contests or where i can find a list of the crooked publishers..and if a publisher doesn't want any money is that usually a good indication that they really want to publish you?

anyone have any suggestions?

one thing i've noticed since i've been away from this place..i don't write much poetry..

anyhow, i'm saying hello...hope you all had a fun holiday.

oh..fawnies fallen in love..but don't tell her i told you:D

I think Ange has a site, or maybe Eve, of the scandelous ones. Maybe a dictonary for anna too.... and rule of thumb if it is in color and flashing at the top of a screen and promising 10 tousand dollars it is a scam

:)

I am sure there is a more precise way to do it

way to go fawnie!

as happy for you as you are happy...

so ange or eve..care to enlighten me? i have another offer for publication, and am trying to find out if it's the real deal.

i know the easy ones to spot as far as being crooked, but then there are those that aren't quite so easy. anyhow, post a reply when you're around..give me a link..i'd certainly appreciate it.

and ty anna!

hey Beauty!! missed you

I dont know about the "bad" sites, but here is one link that offers "good" ones. I have submitted to a few... anyway, they are some interesting ones at least. I have some more links, oh what anna said about the flasing banners? she's right. Oh did you check the sticky that says "links"?

:rose:

I'm not sure about a site but...

If you pick up the book Poet's Market 2005, it is full of publishing opportunities with information about payment or not, readership, what they are looking for, times they want submissions, the percent of work they publish, etc.

I think they also list some contests and things.

You might also look for Poet & Writer Magazine, it carries a monthly section with contests, and calls for submissions, etc. They are a reputable magazine and the contest listings for the most part look legit.

I have seen a site that listed a lot of the sham contests, but that was a while ago. If I come across it I'll mention it here... just not sure where I saw it.

You might want to check the Welcome, Information and Links sticky at the top of this forum. I'm sure some of the information and links can help you. :D

Hiya Bluey!

There are two links in the thread Lauren references. One is about scams and what to avoid (poetry.com, for example, is a notorious rip-off), and the other is about awards and contests.

And I second jthserra's recommendation of the 2005 Poets Market, which is an excellent compendium of poetry publishers, many of whom run legitimate contests.

(Give fawnie a big kiss for me and tell her I'm so happy for her good news.) ;)

ahh ty for the fb everyone! i will check out the links..i do use the poets market..i'm trying to find out about a couple of online sites.

anyone hear of circleofpoets.com?

it's a pay site, i submitted a couple of poems, Africa's orphans they want to publish..but in order to be entered in the contest you have to buy the book to make-up for no entry fee.

so unlike poetry.com..they seem abit more legit but i'm a skeptic..one thing i did find out is they publish it even if i dont buy it..but you gotta buy it to enter the contest.

it had the feeling of poetry.com which is why i'm thinking bad thoughts:eek:

anyhow..i miss it around here but it's good to be having a life outside of internet. and tath..fawnie does love you..oh wait...no she loves the monkey in ur av..my mistake:D

oh wait..i am fawnie...now i'm starting to feel like mpd..see, this place makes people crazy!:p
