Just a personal outburst

I just read an article on holiday decorations in the Washington Post. I'm not actually angry but somewhere between palpably bothered and suitably ruffled.

Here is how one makes "Tortilla Snowflakes": : Cut flour tortillas into 4-inch circles using pinking shears or other decorative cutting scissors. Cut holes using aspic cutters or a hole punch.
Place on a parchment or Silpat-lined sheet pan and set an overturned cooling rack on top of tortillas to keep them flat. Bake at 200 degrees until hard and dry, about 30 minutes. Let cool completely.
Stamp designs on snowflakes using a cookie stamp and stamping colors, or you may dilute color pastes with a little water. It might be helpful to paint the color onto the stamp with a small brush. Or paint the snowflakes freehand with a small brush. Let dry. String with ribbon and hang.

What mind-spattered, stupefied, image-deficient, indolent, otiose, frittering layabout gringo yanqui thought this up?

Xarrumfotl!

Perdita :p

p.s. there are also instructions for making ornaments out of pomegranates which include painting! them.

Martha Stewart? She's got a lot of time on her hands these days...

Dear Venetian Lady,

Please do not even think of visiting a so-called Mexican Restaurant in Yorkshire.

Your blood pressure would go sky-high.

Hey, I live in New Mexico . . . imagine how I feel when I see someone using plastic luminarias!

Grumble.

P, I long ago ceased to be surprised at the sheer lunacy that seems to reign at this time of year. Its like the whole damn world, christian or not goes crazy.

I will never understand it, and for my part, try to keep it on a low profile.

Now you've done it, Ogg. No, not really, I absolutely must see this. However, given it's England, and Yorkshire especially, I will be very compassionate. But in the states I cannot abide bad Mexican restaurants (no one should).

Sorry, perdita, but I don't get it...

Maybe it's because I can only dream of having a white Christmas, so have to resort to using Santa snow from an aerosol can to decorate the tree and windows.

Doorm, as children my brothers and I used to make paper snowflakes (and we had real snow outside) and tape them to windows. Why anyone would 'use' tortillas is beyond me. P.

Brilliant! :D

*stands and applauds*

I must broaden my range of insults a little, although twat is pretty all-encompassing. ;)

Probably the woman with an NPR cooking show that began a piece on making tortillas by saying, "A tortilla is a lot like an omelet." I was too busy bitching at the radio to hear exactly how and why she thought that was so. Normally, I wouldn't bother yelling at the radio for that, but the same woman said the week earlier that avocado is Spanish for lawyer.

I try to cut her some slack by reminding myself that she's from Minnesota, but hubby banned that show from our house (or at least my ears) anyway. :D

Hmm . . . painted pomegranate . . .

And you might not want to know what she meant. Just tremble in fear like the rest of us.

Wow, Min., my eyes rolled too. I can understand the mental typo but to have it broadcast on NPR, sheesh! P.

If you don't paint them, at least you could eat them lol

pinata's amaze me.. who was the nutcase who thought those up? Blindfolding kids and giving them a stick to bash the hell out of it. I'd hate to think how many injuries have come from those suckers.

The Aztecs picked up on them from the Spanish conquerors. I whacked at many a pinata in my youth and don't recall anyone ever being injured. Maybe it's gringo yanquis who stand close to the kid with the bat?

Perdita (you are pushing me, Doorm, take care)

She uses the word "otiose" in a sentence? And coherently? And with grace and elegance?

That heavy thumping sound is the collapse of thoroughly smitten horse. Perdita, I do thee worship.

I think,,,,, I think I just hurt myself laughing at this thread. Go get them Tigress.

Cat

(Who is still shuddering in reaction to his trying the London version of Hot and Spicy Food. I now make sure to bring several bottles of my hot sauce when I travel there.)

Perdita called me her bonbon.

Take me now.

Cuz they are round and inexpensive. You can even buy them with foodstamps. You might not know this, but sometimes foodstamps is all ya got.
