Dear BDSM Cafe, it's been a long time since my last confess...err, ummm, post here!

We bought a new house! It's out in the boonies (compared to the last one) in an area we both love. It's VERY southwestern-styled, and we are helping it along. I swear, the house was waiting for us! It was listed for a few weeks when we got to see it, and had never been lived in. The kitchen is quirky, but we'll fix that within a year. There's next to no garden (and it's on 3/4 acre!!!) so that's another project. It's about 500 sq ft smaller than our last house, and it's just the two of us. (DD1 is in Chicago, DD2 moved out just after we did...YAY empty nest!) The most wonderful part of this is that it's about 2 miles from the base of Superstition Mountain. The view is gorgeous, and there's a wilderness area right across the street. At night it's like we're the only people here. There's a covey of quail living in the back yard scrub, and we get to hear owls and coyotes at night. Heaven!

My parents' estates are both settled, at last, so there is some money flowing in. We just have to pace ourselves on projects. First up is selling the old house, of course. We have a few more boxes to move out (so does DD2) then there will be new flooring and new interior paint, then it's someone else's problem. (Not much of one, since it's in very good shape other than cosmetic stuff.) We'll be folding those profits into the new mortgage and pretty much coming out even. It's so nice to be able to shed the money worries of the past several years. My kids both feel the same way. DD2 is out on her own for the first time, with a roommate, and doing pretty well so far. DD1 is moving into a new apartment in extreme north Chicago (near Evanston), has a relatively new job that has been leaps and bounds better than the previous one. She's gotten two raises in six months, and has been designated as a trainer for new hires because she's "just that good, mom." LOL

I think that, after several years of inner and outer turmoil, we are finally settling in to something much better for both of us. My only (very small) grumble is being significantly farther away from some of my favorite social connections. However, I know that once we are settled and more unpacked, I'll be able to venture out for visits again. I got to take my very antique spinning wheel out for a demonstration last weekend, and it was a hit, as was my delight at seeing friends and not unpacking for a day. Lately, my "was it a good day?" bedtime quiz is mostly centered on how many boxes got unpacked. So far, so good.

For those playing at home (LOL) Master now has a "man cave" and I have a smaller-than-before but better organized craft room. No open flame in this version...but I'll have a studio of some sort in the fall. M wants to put me in a shed, but I think we can put together a very nice space in the (much larger than before) garage. Holy carp, it's massive! Our old garage was 19x19, this one is more like 26x26.

I know some of you will be asking for pix. As soon as a few more boxes are unpacked, I promise I will post an album link. There are some amazing goodies here! Cool tile in the showers, a Jacuzzi tub, gorgeous views and even an outdoor shower!

It's funny, when we narrowed it down to three houses to see with our agent, one looked cool on the outside but was a bust inside; the second is our new home (cool house, no garden); and the third was an odd house with a lovely garden. I actually polled friends about house vs. garden. A few good friends yelled at me, said "pick the house, the garden will follow" and I agreed. I have ideas. It's going to be fun!

So happy to see this desertslave, it all sounds like a just marvelous way to start a new chapter. Congrats to you both! :rose:

This is so good to hear desertslave :rose::)

A new home, a new chapter. Can't wait to see a few photos!
Good luck with all the unpacking.
