Do you think it's only for suckers that can't get out of it or people that feel like it's a duty to serve?

Is jury duty convenient? No.

Will I whine and piss and moan if I get a letter in the mail? No.

There are too many other things to get worked up over than jury duty.

I doing my duty on a very unpleasant case. It was in the news but I never heard about it. So all I know about it is what I hear in court. I glad about that. I do feel I can be impartial because cable news never told me what I should do.

For the most part juries take their job very seriously. There are exceptions *cough*OJ*cough* of course.

First thing out of your mouth, say, "He looks guilty to me! Let's get this show on the road!"

"That's the prosecuting attorney, sir."

That's what everyone said I should do. I said no. It's a dirty job but if we want the system to work, someone has to do it.

I do like the judge. He kicks ass and takes names when the lawyers start playing games and bend the rules.

I wouldn't mind sitting on a jury, but each time I've gotten a summons I haven't had to even show up.

Blah, I didn't mind having jury duty, but missed an important field trip with my class. I followed the procedure to try and have the judge excuse me or defer my duty for the summer, but he was an ass and kept me there.

If it was any other time of the year I would have been fine with going, but oh well. I hope your experience is fun! At least it's a day away from work.

I've happily served twice, one just a few months ago. I found it interesting that all the prospective jurors dirty laundry was aired in court, and for it being a small town, I knew all kinds of people.

Here is a secret about jury duty. If it's an inconvenient week just don't show up. Don't ask a different date at court.

Call in the next Monday and say "I completely forgot about it. What can I do to fix it?".

They just reschedule you.

Wait, how's you get dirty laundry? Was it like the secrets thread but in the courtroom? I'm jealous. Mine was an incredibly boring traffic incident.

I've been called twice, but was never chosen to be part of a jury.

I think it's one's duty as a citizen.

Mine was a period of time where I had to continue to call in, about 3 months. Once I knew that time period, I gave the judge the date and reason that I couldn't make it. I heard nothing in reply, then as the date approached, I reminded him with another letter. When it finally came, of course I ended up having to appear for duty and did not get excused. :(

I should have just "forgot," but it would have been pretty obvious why I didn't show up.

Well the attorneys would ask the prospective jurors if they'd ever been to jail, arrested, smoked pot or any dealings with pot as it was a case where some idiot on parole visited someone in jail and had weed on him. They also asked if anyone had been in a lawsuit, and what was it. Oh ya, I saw friends, former clients, workers at various businesses there. And also asked everyone's ethnic background and if one could be impartial as he was from a local tribe.

I have been to jury duty 4 times in the last 11 years. Three times for regular jury duty and once for the grand jury which lasts for six months. The law says you can't be called for one year after you have served.

Supposedly, it's a random drawing based on your driver's licence but I seem to be popular. Every time I get picked for a jury. Getting a case is much interesting than waiting around to get picked for one.

Oooh, we were asked boring traffic questions. Honestly, it wasn't a bad experience. I was just disappointed that I couldn't help my class on the field trip.

I sign it over to the company, and they pay my regular salary.

Me too. :)

Hold on, I get paid for doing jury duty from my company but I don't have to give them the pittance from the jury duty.
