Jumping into the fire ... Should the entire Non-Con category be eliminated?

I think the argument of "don't read it if you don't like it" is a weak one. There's plenty of examples where you would want to take action, and many of the rules exemplify this. Snuff porn is not allowed for example. Or should we say "don't like it, don't read it?" I think not.

That leads to the question, why shouldn't we ban non-con? It too easily strays into rape, as it is rape from the beginning.

In principle I'm against non-con. Though there is only one thing that would stay my hand from banning it if I had that power. Many good stories are good because they tackle difficult subjects. Though if they don't, I would only allow the reluctance category, and only reluctantly.

Why does snuff need to be banned?

Yes, I get it. There are legalities over snuff that could get the site shut down, but aside from that, what do you have against snuff (or anything else) as fiction? If I write a snuff story and you read it (accidentally or otherwise) are you going to go out and commit snuff? That would be on you, not me, and not on my story.

If the law of murder was repealed tomorrow, I would not not be any more inclined to murder anyone than I already am. I do not commit murder because I don't feel the need to. It has nothing to do with the law. The US has the highest murder rates in the western world despite some of the strongest punishments for murder. We have plenty of movies and stories about murder. Many of them are staggeringly popular and lauded with awards and high praise.

So why does snuff (or anything else) need to be banned? And what is so weak about the "don't like it, don't read it" argument? People change the channel every minute of the day. As dumb as we may be, we are still extremely capable of this.

No one should ban non-con because there are people who enjoy it. We exist. Deal with it.

Sexual non consent is rape....
It glorifies the sexual abuse of another human being regardless of their gender.
Taking another human being sexually against their wishes is rape... Non consensual sex is rape....
You can paint pretty flowers on it, but it doesn't change it... Rape... Is Rape...
Any attempts to portray it as anything else, is in my opinion... Bullshit...

So, should Non Con be banned???
In my opinion... Absolutely.

Reason's aplenty. It is why we don't allow people who like children to have access to pictures, videos or stories of children. It can normalise the idea to people, or make people search for the next step as their taste is evolving.

In the end, someone might normalise non-com in their heads and eventually rape someone. So yes, you writing a non-con story where it is glorified or normalised can most definitely contribute to someone getting raped.

The argument "don't read it if you don't like it" is simply invalid. It is still there. "Don't mind that an autocratic dictator rules your country. Just ignore it." "If a boy is getting teased in class, just look away if it bothers you." "Don't mind we're normalising something that shouldn't be normalised. It won't harm anyone. That is our gut feeling."

Ignoring it doesn't mean it can't be uncomfortable, or cause problems. It is still very much there.

Do note that I'm focusing on a subcategory and not all of non-con.

The defenders of it will never understand.

No author/artist is responsible for the behavior of others.

I'd love to see a rapist try that argument in court: The dirty story I read on literotica (that thousands of others read and didn't rape anyone) made me commit rape.

You arguments do not back up your stance.

Sexual non-consent is rape. Yes. Agree. So? What does that have to do with rape fiction?

It glorifies sexual abuse. This does not make sense. Rape glorifies rape? I think you mean that rape fiction glorifies rape (so not only is your argument hopelessly flawed, so is your diction). This is not true. Glorification is in the eye of the reader. A non-con story does not glorify rape any more than a war movie glorifies war or a mafia story glorifies crime and contract murder. So if you are not willing to ban Saving Private Ryan and the Godfather you can get off of your rickety soapbox right now.

If you believe that every non-con story is an attempt to paint pretty flowers on rape you are horribly short-sighted. I call bullshit on your bullshit. It's judgmental folks like you who are the biggest threat to free speech.

There is research and evidence, that substantiates the theory that criminals were influenced by what they have seen in media... Stories, movies, even song...
It is my opinion that we are all influenced, even if subconsciously by what we see and hear...
It is why the cycles of abuse continue to repeat... Children growing up in violent households are much more likely to offend.

In fact it's been tried too many times to quote here.

That kind of thing is a large part of why new laws are being enacted against sites like this.

Encouraging criminal behavior is not in anyone's best interests.
