Destiny Fairchild was named as such by her parents, two famous cave explorers. They figured naming her such was perfect for her. At a young age Destiny had taken to rock climbing and exploring caves right along with her parents. Home schooled she was able to go jsut about anywhere they did, unless laws in that certain region forbid children climbing. She had been to just about every continent, seen thousands of cave, climbed the hardest of cliffs and mountains. She had almost lost her life several times, broken numerous bones. Her legs had light scars from the sharp edges of the rock she climbed but she didnt care, she loved what she did.

She had continued her parents legacy after they had vanished in a rock slide during their last cave hunt. Rescuers had tried for days to reach them but the gases had pushed them back, noone could have survived so they had sealed the cave closed. Burying her parents deep in the heart of what they had lvoed doing. A small plaque had been placed at the entrance remembering them and their efforts to the enviroment. Destiny had taken over after that three years later. She had sold everything she had owned, restocked her beat up jeep and headed out. She had lived her in the rainforests of Central America since she was 12,loved every thing about it.

She had a few friends here but tended to stay more to herself, the call of the jungle and the caves to strong for her to ignore. SOme villagers called her strange, even crazy when she would go of for weeks on end alone into the forests. Destiny didnt care, something called to her each time, pulling her back. ALmost like a beacon calling to her. Today she was going to climb the sheer cliffs known as the Jaguar's Claw. She had seen a cave at the top during her searches with her binoculars, her heart had began that crazy beat as she neared it. Parking at the base of the cliff she looked upwards,it was amazing, natural and beautiful. Shutting off her jeep she slid from the car and walked around to the back.

She began to slide on her climbing gear, making sure all the tack was secure, her backpack in place with her spare lights, notepad, camera, and water and food. She slid on her spiked shoes, slid the half gloves onto her hands, then chalked up her exposed fingers. She walked to the wall of sharp jagged rocks and with the lift of a foot and the grasp of a hand she began her slow ascent up the rock wall. Several times in her climb she slipped, gasping and calming herself before she comtinued on. Several times she stopped, feeling eyes on her. She had looked around but had seen nothing out of the ordinary before returning to her climb.

Several hours later she finally lifted her tired body over the edge of the cliff and stared at the entrance to the cave. It was larger than she had imagined, the dark hole calling out to her as she pulled off her gear. SLiding on the lighted helmet, making sure she had her pickaxe, gun, radio, and pack with her she walked slowly towwards the entrance. The low growl she heard stopped her cold. Nothing should be living up here,it would be impossible. She waited, listening, finally nothing else sounded and she laughed softly. Her nerves were palying with her again, sometimes she could swear she heard a large cat over the last feww weeks here.

Turning on her light, the beam cutting into the darkness of the cave, she entered into it. She let her eyes adjust, her footsteps slow and careful. he had not trained for all these years to grow careless now. Her adrenaline pumped through her a sit always did when she found a new cave. Her hand reached out to touch the walls, they were damp and cool which meant there was water flowing closeby, which was good in case she needed to find it. Her feet stepped over rocks realising they were worn in some spots as if someone had travel her and made a path, but who...or yet...what.

She had lost track of time as she descended deeper into the darkness, frowning when she thought the cave appeared to go lighter. There shouldnt be any light filtering in at all at this depth. She stepped slowly as the cave lightened further, her gasp echoed around her as she now stoo in the center of a huge cavern, one made bright by the strange plants and what looked like diamond embedded into the walls before her. It was a natural cave light, one that had only been recorded in two or three journals she had read.

She turned and let her eyes wander over the large cavern, her heart hammering at the beauty of it. Her dark green eyes seemed to sparkle in the light, her red hair seemed to become a flame at the shimmer. She pulled her helmet off and shook her head, something making her want to embrace this beauty. A soft whisper in her head began calling to her..." COme...your mate awaits you. I have been waiting for you a long time."Came the male words in her head yet none were spoken aloud.

She walked deeper into the cavern, her eyes focused ahead of her, lookigna round her as she walked. Someone calling out to her,she stepped again then the world fell out from under her. Her scream echoed off the walls as she fell into the hole,a hole she should have seen but had been distracted. Her body plummeted downward, her arm slamming into the wall as she fell. She felt the pain as well as heard the crack as the bone broke. She swam in a wave of unconciousness as she hit the bottom hard. Her body in a heap, broken and bloody. She remained concious long enough to hear the cry from above her,the roar of a large cat, then blissfully nothing.

King was not the King of his people simply a protector with an awkward name. He stood six foot eight, his frame tall and muscular like the jaguar that paced back and forth within him. He was finally old enough to call out for a mate and being the Ti'Char of their people, or the Protector, many women came to him and offered themselves to him. He refused them all.

His mate was somewhere else, but he didn't know where she was. Yet.

One day he felt her, hundreds of miles away but finally entering the country. He didn't know her, nor what she looked like, but he could feel the bond she would have with him. He began to send messages to her through the air, letting her know him on the wind.

News that a woman was climbing the outer cliff made him smile. He knew she had come for him. She may not know it yet, but she was coming to be his. King walked through the cavern careful to stay hidden. He went up to the upper level hoping to see her take her first steps into what would be her knew home.

To stay hidden King shifting into his black Jaguar form and watched with feline eyes. She came into the soft glowing light of the crystal cavern and King felt his heart skip a beat. She was beautiful, strong and regal. Her body was flawless, and he could tell she truly took care of herself.

He send out his voice, echoing it through the cave to lure her deeper.." COme...your mate awaits you. I have been waiting for you a long time."

She took a step forward and fell. His eyes widened and his breath caught in panic. "NO!" He growled and spun, racing down through the cavern to get to her. He gritted his teeth and put on as much speed as his cat body could muster.

She was unconscious when he got to her, his body shifted to human and he scooped her into his arms. The village wasn't far and he hurried with her to the medicine woman.

Together they patched the woman up, and let her rest. They had set her arm and put it in a sling to help it heal, then all King could do was wait.

Destiny dreamed of a man..a man whose eyes bore into hers and held her. Her body reacted to his closeness, his smell. She tossed her head back and forth on the makeshift pile of furs she rested upon, oblivious to those sitting around her...watching. Her eyes darted back and forth behind her closed lids as she tried to fully see him.

Her hand lifted to touch him,his skin warm under her touch then it changed to a soft silky fur covered apendage. She drew her hand back, not afraid just startled. She reached out once more to stroke the silky softness, feeling the muscles rippling beneath the fur. Once more she returned her gaze to his eyes..his golden brown ones that seemed to peer deeply into her soul. Then her dream shifted and she was standing in the middle of a raging fight..large cats growled and pounced atop the humans killing them.

She could smell the blood, hear the screams as if they were really happening. She saw the man from her dreams, standing a head above the rest in human form, fighting and cursing any he took down. His head lifted, his eyes meeting with hers. He threw the man he held in his clawed hands to the side and began to advance towards her,she stepped back until something stopped her. She looked down, her eyes went wide. Her body was covered in a soft coating of downly like fur, light golden tan.

She jerked upright on the furs, grabbing her arm as pain flared through it. Her gasped escaped her lips as she scooted backwards on the furs. Stopping only when she could go no further, looking around her fearfully. Half still in her dream and struggling to reach full conciousness. She looked at the few people around her,the old woman that reached out to gently touched her arm, seemed to be trying to calm her. Not speaking but yet giving off a strong aura around her. those around her gave her the room and respect she deserved. Her head turned and the breath caught in her throat as her eyes met those of the man from her dream.

King watched her as she slept. He could tell she was dreaming because of the way her eyes darted around behind her eyelids. He closed his eyes besides her and tried to share the history of his people with her through her dreams. Softly he touched her and felt the connection between them flare instantly. She was clearly meant to be his, there was no possible doubt behind that now.

He showed her everything.

And she woke gasping.

Analga the medicine woman put out a calming aura for the woman and King shifted back from her to keep from scaring her. She panted and jerked her eyes back and forth around the room, until her eyes met his. He gave her a soft but caring look, then glanced away to avoid making her feel uncomfortable.

"How are you feeling?" He asked her carefully, knowing full well her arm probably hurt something wicked.

Destiny looked at the man who had spoken, his voice seemed to calm her slightly. His words flowed over her but yet the fierceness was still tangible. She looked down at her arm and then back to them. "I fell...was all I remember."She said not knowing why she said that. His eyes still seemed to bore into her even though he had moved and looked away.

She took a deep breath and looked at the woman who seemed to be a medicine woman. "Thank you." was the only thing she could think of to say to her.

She moved and used the wall to push herself to her feet, staggering slightly as the wave of pain washed over her. She swallowed hard to fight down the urge to vomit. "Where am I?"She asked finally looking around her, from the heaviness of the air she assumed she was still underground. But who was all these people...why were they living here.

She let her eyes move back to the man she felt she knew, yet somehow she knew she had never seen him before. She felt herself seeking him out each time she looked around, why was he calling out to her and why could she hear his voice in her head yet no sound came form his lips.

King looked back at her slowly and let his gaze linger over her body. She was remarkably beautiful, though the injuries from her fall mared her body it somehow added to her charm. "You are in the hidden city of T'Char. The city of the Jaguar people." He told her slowly.

He leaned forward and patted the fur bed, "Please you are injured and you need rest. Sit back down at least." There was a clear sign of distress in his eyes, if she was to be his mate he wanted her to heal properly, and stressing her out was not a good way to do that.

"Are you hungry? I can send for some food." He glanced toward one of the medicine woman's helpers and the man darted from the room without having to be told a single word. He turned back toward his mate and asked her. "Please, tell me your name." His hand reached out toward her because he wanted to know what her touch would feel like.

Destiny sat back down on the ple of furs, his words eased her a bit,she watched as the man scurried from the room at the mention of getting her food. She raised her eyes and listened to him explain his home...Could it be? The fabled city of the Jaguars that her parents always talked about. The city all said never existed? She looked at King and watched as his hand slowly reached out towards her, slowly as if not to frighten her. She watched as it softly touched her knee, soft almost unfelt. Yet she felt it as if he had slapped her. She took in a deep breath as she lifted her eyes from his hand back to his face.

"My name is Destiny...Destiny Fairchild."She said softly as the man burst back into the room, the plate he carried laden with a variety of food. She noticed that once he set the plate down he backed out of the room, almost subserviant. She then noticed everyone else had left the room so quietly she didnt even hear them.

" Something drew me here...called to me."She continued easing her wrapped arm into a more comfortable position. She finally pulled her eyes away from him,the effort was hard. His eyes seemed to hold her own, peering deeply into her. Almost a soul searing gaze,he didnt seemed shocked by her appearance, almost as if he had known she was coming.

She finally turned back to him and spoke the thoughts she had been thinking finally. "How can I hear you in my head? You were calling to me..it was you...wasnt it?"

King saw her eye the food and he hear her stomach growl with hunger. She was hungry and understandably so, it had to have been hours since she last eaten anything. Her knee trembled under his touch, but he didn't pull his hand away. She had heard of their city, which was odd, they had been convinced that people outside the caverns had no clue about the city beneath the rock.

He frowned slightly but nodded, "This is the city you speak of. We are supposed to be unknown to the rest of the world, but perhaps some things have been carried through the wind." He sighed and answered her other question.

"It is common for our people to bound mentally with their mate. I felt you long ago and I tired to contact you. But you are not of my people and I can only give you images and blurry dreams. It was enough to lead you hear though." He didn't want to explain so much to her so fast, but it was better that she know her reason for being her sooner rather than later.

Destiny reached for and began to nibble on a buttery piece of bread as he spoke. She frowned when he mentioned noone had heard of this place, she shook her head. "That's not true..."She began as she sip some water and leaned back against the wall, her arm propped up as it began to ache. She looked around her once more before she looked back at King.

"My mother used to talk about this place..."She began softly as she recalled how her mom would sit with her at bedtime and tell her the story of the Jaguar People. "She told me she had been here before...had lived her for awhile."She said softly as she also recalled how her mother would grow silent towards the end of the story never finishing it. "She never did tell me how she knew of this place...She never talked about her childhood much...not until she married my dad."She added trying to think of anything she could remember of the stories.

"She would usually end the stories about the waterfall that poured from the roof of the huge cavern...the water glistened like diamonds from the cave lights and gems...the water was warm and soothing, but what she mentioned the most was the beautiful flower that she had never seen grow anywhere else but here...it was blood red and looked like a ragged piece of cloth but as soft as silk ."She said closing her eyes as she grew tired once more. Sleep dragging her down into its healing confines. The last thing she saw before sleep was King next to her,his body close to hers as if protecting her as she slept.
