I absolutely adore Joni Mitchell, as a poet and a musician and a singer. But I sometimes let months go by without listening to her, because I don't like to weep. She can destroy me like no other poet ever has. I listen to her live recordings and there will be a hitch in her voice when she sings a certain lyric that will rip the heart right out of my chest.

When my wife died, I knew I could mourn forever or I could wallow in it and get over it. I bought a case of wine, put six of Joni's disks on my player, hit repeat and spent a week crying. I'm only exaggerating slightly when I say she saved my life.

I love you Joni, though I've never met you. Bless you.

I'm sorry, Babe. About your wife. I didn't know.

I'd sing for you but I'll warn you now. That's one of the worst ides I've ever had.

I know what you men about the hitch in the voice. Some artists get- most don't. When it's real it's awesome. Theres certain notes, too, that when played just right will mke me weep even if its a song about a drunken trashman.

hearts to your loss

been there and my loss was being of a different ilk....

My two cents :

I agree with every word Mutt. Joni is a Godsend and I adore every word. I just can' t listen to her when I am feeling down, or I keep going down. But there are a few words, a silent message that just reaches out and grabs one, makes me want to write. That's art!

Hugs sweetie and much, much love~
