The last trailer dropped. I want it to be good, I like Joker as much as the next guy but I got zero confidence in this movie. I'm wrong a lot so I hope I am this time, too.

And why do we need a Joker origin story? He needs no explanation, he's a psychopath. He has one goal, kill Batman. That's it. No other explanation needed. It's worked for a hundred years but now we suddenly gotta know why?

I wonder about this as well. I hope the studio didn't decide to make the Joker just a victim of life, and try to humanize him. To me the Joker should be kept a wild violent criminal. He is after all completely fictional.

I think the casting choice of Joaquin for The Joker was damn near a no-brainer.

But that doesn't necessarily mean the movie will be good - although I seriously doubt he'll phone it in. I like the director too. More worried about the story...

He played the character perfectly. It was everything else that sucked. I like the show, I like camp but it was never the comics. It was 60's tv which, let's be honest left a lot to be desired. At least it wasn't the 80's. shudder

The Joker’s relationship to Batman is similar to Professor Moriarty to Sherlock Holmes, a perfect contrast. There’s a reason the Joker is one of, if not the most iconic comic villains of all time. Without him, Batman would be a boring character.

As far as the Joker movie goes, I’ll watch it, but the Joker doesn’t need a backstory/origin in my opinion. He’s a total psychopath, one of the bright spots in the DCU.

Jack Nicholson played a good Joker. I didn’t think anyone could top that until Heath Ledger came along. I’m not going to get my hopes up that anyone can outperform Heath Ledger’s performance.
We’ll see.

However it turns out I'm treating it like it's own separate story. What I've seen so far looks like a breath of fresh air for the the superhero genre and Hollywood in general. It's a big budget action film that seems to have art-house airs to it and I'm also getting a lot of Fight Club vibes from it. The highest praise I can give to any movie.

We'll see though, at least it can't be worse than Jared Leto, if only because that's impossible.
