Bigger breasts offered as perk to US soldiers
22 July 2004

NEW YORK: The US army has long lured recruits with the slogan "Be All You Can Be", but now soldiers and their families can receive plastic surgery, including breast enlargements, on the taxpayers' dime.

The New Yorker magazine reports in its July 26th edition that members of all four branches of the US military can get face-lifts, breast enlargements, liposuction and nose jobs for free – something the military says helps surgeons practice their skills.

"Anyone wearing a uniform is eligible," Bob Lyons, chief of plastic surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio told the magazine, which said soldiers needed the approval of their commanding officers to get the time off.

Between 2000 and 2003, military doctors performed 496 breast enlargements and 1361 liposuction surgeries on soldiers and their dependents, the magazine said.

The magazine quoted an Army spokeswoman as saying, "the surgeons have to have someone to practice on".

Wouldn't it be dangerous to have women with big boobs in the army? I mean, what if the soldiers get so distracted by the boobs that they forget to shoot the enemy?

It's not as far-fetched as it sounds, actually. There have been many incidents when guys have driven off the road because they were staring at female walkers-by with big boobs.

Seriously... not only do they sign up to get killed by strangers, now they may also sign up to risk their life in order to enhance their cleavage in order to please a patriarchihc, male chauvinist society - and tax payers should pay for this!

How about spending that money on something REASONABLE instead - like feeding the hungry and homeless?

If women don't have the moral strength to refuse to obey the whims of a beauty-obsessed society, then maybe the prices of surgery can scare them off. Breast enhancement is a luxury surgery, and shouldn't cost the great mass a dime!

They claim that they perform those operations to keep the army surgeons in practice. They are there, they are employed, and costs the tax payers money anyway. And boobjobs, liposuction and other cosmetic procedures are supposed to be fairly risk-free things to keep their competence level up.

However, letting them do this work in the real world, routine but sorely needed surgery, (I'm no surgeon so I don't know what's considered simple) for people who can't afford to have it otherwise, would had been a better option.

What if a female infantryman throws a grenade, but her augmented boob deflects her arm enough that it bounces off the back of her squadmate's head? Would that be deemed "casualties of boob?"

Which is why they won't allow gay men. Don't want the troops lying in foxholes hoping that someone is covering their rear... or not, as the case may be.

way back when i was a dependant.. (ex was an officer in navy) he came home with literature on breast enhancement

god.. he was so fricken sweet..

but i did call and find out what the program entails.. they told me that the plastic surgeons, in peace time need to keep their skill level up. so they offer dependants who have significant trouble.. ie: mental stress or obesity..sevices on an as needed basis.

not sure how i feel about it. but i do agree with Liar, it would be good if they offered their services to the underpriveledged.. however.. another can of worms here..

most of the people who serve in the military dont earn enough to live on one income and fall grossly under the poverty line.. so maybe this just goes to soften the blow.. who knows

So if you join and don't die in active duty, you can be sure of getting a job at Hooter's when your out?

If you look at it from the enemies point of view, I mean, a bullet from a big breasted soldier is still gonna hurt, but there might be more enemy types willing to surrender.
Most girls use breasts as weapons, when I mowed the yard yesterday in my shorts and t-shirt there were neighbors suddenly watering thier yards without looking where they were aiming.

That can of worms is called "Medical Malpractice" (sp?).

I agree that it is a nobel idea but it would never work in the US. There are FAR to many malpractice lawsuits filed to ever make any kind of 'free' program work.

Consider yourself lucky... they sent me to the vet.

UK vets are trained for longer than doctors. You might get better treatment and all the drugs will have been tested on animals so you know they work.
