In an eerily ironic twist of fate, the very brainwashing that has resulted in schools and training camps filled with potential Islamic human bombs willing - and wanting - to die for the cause may have come from studies done in Moscow, North Korea and North Vietnam on captured U.S. POWs.
Often with Soviet supervision, the regimes in Hanoi and Pyongyang used U.S. pilots and soldiers as human guinea pigs for these gruesome experiments.
In the late 1970s - long after the end of the Vietnam War - still-held U.S. prisoners of war were used in awful experiments in a POW camp on the southern periphery of Hanoi. There, in what had once been a film studio and an active POW camp during the war, North Vietnamese communist torture-meisters made such progress with American POWs that they paraded a few in front of a visiting delegation of Russians, Cubans and Palestinians. The American POWs were ushered into the room to stand in front of the seated visitors. On a verbal command from the Vietnamese "doctor" the Americans defecated while standing up without any previous knowledge that this is what they would do.
The visitors left - undoubtedly impressed with the progress made on these poor abandoned Americans subjects.
About that same time Palestinians were seen in a North Vietnamese hospital. Why would they even be in North Vietnam?
Also about that same time a large contingent of Cuban soldiers went to North Vietnam to practice beach landings in a "simulated invasion of the United States"! (A Cuban torture expert - dubbed Fidel by his POW victims - tortured U.S. POWs in Hanoi during the war.)
From the mid-1960s on U.S. POWs captured in Vietnam and Laos were secretly flown to Moscow for "debriefings" of their intricate knowledge of American military technology. One can imagine what was done to these poor men in order to get them to talk.
Other U.S. POWs from Vietnam, and earlier from the Korean War, were also taken to Russia to be subjects in drug experiments.
How does this all relate to today's so-called War on Terrorism?
The Palestinians were long supported by the Soviets. So, too, were the anti-shah forces in Iran who seized power in 1979. And Moscow to this day has close relations with Iraq. This book on brainwashing - compiled by vicious Soviet agents and their allies over a 50-year period - has clearly been used by these anti-American killers.
How else can we explain these grown men visiting Afghan training camps and emerging as dedicated suicide bombers willing - wanting - to die for their so-called cause?
We have become obsessed with the transfer in the post-Soviet era of Russian nukes and chemical weapons to rogue states and groups. It is very likely that this brainwashing manual, too, has fallen into evil hands.
What to do now that this horrible knowledge is in the hands of our enemies?
We must wipe out all the training centers, camps, schools, groups - and leaders - who propagate this technique.
Some in our government and media are gloating these days that Osama's al-Qaeda is "out of business."
Nothing could be further from the truth!
He is alive - and even if he isn't he has successors - and the network is filled with brainwashed agents ready to die while taking many of us with them. In fact, the danger has never been greater. A wounded animal is always more dangerous that a well-fed, complacent one.
And if Osama is still alive - and the betting here is that he is and still able to run things - then he can easily launch new missions against us.
The only way to defang this monster is to kill or deprogram these suicide bombers.
And while we're at it, it would be nice if this country would finally try to bring home the poor U.S. POWs still held alive against their will overseas.
Haven't they suffered enough?
