I do not know how many of you are Who fans but I am saddened by there bass players death ..I play guitar but started on bass and he was an inspiration to me I will miss him ..He died from a heart attack in his sleep..You will be missed John..RIP:(

Very sad news, indeed. I grew up listening to The Who..they are right up there as one of my all time favorites..Had the chance to see them twice..once long ago..and once a number of years ago after they started touring again. The music world has lost of their best.

Entwhistle was one of the best, if not THE BEST,of the bassists in rock music. He was a tremendously talented musician, playing brass as well as bass.

He could have played French Horn, a very difficult instrument to master, in professional orchestras if he had chosen to go that route instead of rock.

The Who always presented "intellegent" rock. Their lyrics, for the most part, were philosophical and challenging. The music was well-structured, while still frantic. They were the band for thinkers.

Rock-n-Roll has lost another giant.

We'll miss you, Ox.

Another rock legend gone

Was fortunate to see John Entwistle guest at two concerts in my life.

The Who was part of my growing up, and still sounded great when I last watched them on tv during the WTC relief concert at Madison Square Garden. They blew the place away!

They were about to begin another concert tour tonight.

John will be missed.:rose:

I didn't know.....

and I am very sadden to hear....:( :( May he be remembered with the joy he gave to all in his music...:rose:

music lost another good one & heaven's band just got a little better

never good to go but dying in your sleep if you gotta go sure would be better then a lot of other fates...

godspeed him

Yeah--it was all over the radio yesterday after it happened...was due to see The Who in concert on July 6th. So many hits and memorable songs--and the Rock Opera Tommy! May he rest in peace and he will be missed!

RIP John Entwistle

"ROCK AND ROLL HEAVEN"

Words & Music by Alan O'Day & Johnny Stevenson

Chorus:

IF YOU BELIEVE IN FOREVER
THEN LIFE IS JUST A ONE NIGHT STAND
IF THERE'S A ROCK & ROLL HEAVEN
WELL YOU KNOW THEY GOT A HELL OF A BAND, BAND, BAND

JIMI GAVE US RAINBOWS
JANIS TOOK A PIECE OF OUR HEARTS
AND OTIS, BROUGHT US ALL TO THE DOCK OF THE BAY
SING A SONG TO LIGHT MY FIRE
REMEMBER JIM THAT WAY
THEY'VE ONLY FOUND ANOTHER PLACE, ANOTHER PLACE TO PLAY

(Repeat Chorus)

REMEMBER BAD BAD LEROY BROWN
JIMMY TOUCHED US WITH THAT SONG
AND TIME WON'T CHANGE A FRIEND WE CAME TO KNOW
BOBBY GAVE US MACK THE KNIFE
LOOK OUT HE'S BACK IN TOWN
THEY'LL ALL BE THERE TOGETHER, WHEN WE MEET IN ONE BIG SHOW

(Repeat Chorus)

Bridge:

THERE'S A SPOTLIGHT WAITING
NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE
'CAUSE EVERYBODY'S GOT A SONG TO SING
EVERYONE'S A STAR

Final Chorus:

IF YOU BELIEVE IN FOREVER
THEN LIFE IS JUST A ONE NIGHT STAND
IF THERE'S A ROCK & ROLL HEAVEN
WELL YOU KNOW THEY GOT A HELL OF A BAND

And one of my fave Who songs as a tribute...not their most popular but I love it! I am playing it now on the CD player...

Love Reign O'er Me

(Pete's theme) Only love
Can make it rain
The way the beach is kissed by the sea.
Only love
Can make it rain
Like the sweat of lovers'
Laying in the fields.

Love, Reign o'er me.
Love, Reign o'er me, rain on me.

Only love
Can bring the rain
That makes you yearn to the sky.
Only love
Can bring the rain
That falls like tears from on high.

Love Reign O'er me.

On the dry and dusty road
The nights we spend apart alone
I need to get back home to cool cool rain.
The nights are hot and black as ink
I can't sleep and I lay and I think
Oh God, I need a drink of cool cool rain.

Nice song...... memories..aren't they wonderful...:)

The Who has always been one of my favorite all time bands. John is why I started playing Bass guitar back in 77.

I was always mezmerized by his ability to play what seemed impossible to me.

I got to see The Who on their first final world tour back in the early 80's. Still my all time favorite show.

:(
