An adviser to Joe Biden on coronavirus has floated the idea of a nationwide lockdown for “four to six weeks.”

Dr. Michael Osterholm was appointed to Biden’s 12-person Covid advisory board on Monday.

Osterholm claimed that would help get the virus under control, “like they did in New Zealand and Australia.”

“To be effective, the lockdown has to be as comprehensive and strict as possible.”

US coronavirus cases surpass 10.5 million with more than 245,000 deaths

U.S. is now averaging a record setting 74,184 new cases per day.

(Meredith) -- Cases of the novel coronavirus in the United States have surpassed 10.5 million with more than 245,000 deaths.

According to Worldometer, as of Tuesday there are 10,559,184confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. According to the same chart, 245,799people have died from the virus in the U.S. and 6,601,331 have recovered so far.

The U.S. has a population of about 327,200,000, which means about 3% of the country has been infected and tested positive. Because of the unknown number of people who may have had the virus and were asymptomatic or were not tested, that number could be higher.

According to these numbers, the mortality rate of positive COVID-19 cases in the U.S. stands at 3.8% (245,799 deaths out of 6,601,331 closed cases), equal to about 1 in 25 people . The mortality rate does not include active cases that have not yet had an outcome.

Co-chair of the Biden Administration says otherwise. Sorry to shine a light on your fear-mongering:

WASHINGTON -- Former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, who is a co-chair of Joe Biden's coronavirus task force, assured that "locking down" the U.S. is unlikely under the president-elect's administration.

Speaking exclusively to "Good Morning America" Friday, Murthy said compared to spring 2020, American researchers have a much deeper understanding of how the coronavirus spreads and ways to prevent risks.

"I don't think that this is [about] a lockdown or not locking down ... The way we should be thinking about this is more like a series of restrictions that we dial up or down depending on how bad the spread is taking place in a specific region," he said.

That's what we had in Australia, and it worked. Now things are opening up again and the rate of new cases is remaining low and completely controllable. Why wouldn't you want that?
