Well, I have a job interview tomorrow morning. This will be the second one for this job. My problem is that I have a vacation planned for the first week of June. Do I tell them this tomorrow? Or wait until the job is offered to me?

Wait until the job is offered to you, I say. I could be wrong, but if they really want you, they will deal with you going away.

Don't call it a vacation though.

Family emergency maybe more appropriate.
(Kidding, it's just other pressing business.)

If you were interviewing to work at one of my companies....

that would be one of the questions YOU would be asked during the interview..........so you wouldn't be put on a 'honesty issue.' My suggestion is wait to see if the job IS offered to you. IF it is, let them know how thrilled you are, but also tell them that this vacation has been planned for a long time and there are some deposits that won't be returned at this late date.

IF the vacation is at the beginning of June.........I don't see it as a stumbling block for the job............

Good luck

Until they make the offer it doesn't matter at all... once they do, it's up to you still to decide if you want it, and what it's worth. At that point you can say something such as: "I'm delighted, but you should know I've a commitment already for the 1st week of June, I hope my absence then isn't problematic."

I disagree.

Wait until you get the offer, but then tell the truth. There isn't anything wrong with having a family vacation scheduled. I have hired many people who already had vacations or honeymoons planned.

Write this on the inside of your armand read it to them. It's perfect (I hope you have plans for the first and not second week of June, because otherwise you're screwed).

Juspar, your businesslike words are having a strangely sexual effect on me

Why would I be screwed? (Yes it really will be the first week of June)

Wish I had more info to go on before giving advice, but...

I don't think I'd jeopardize a great job for a vacation, but if they said tomorrow that they wanted you to start "right away" I might look very pensive and say, "Well Mr. Jones, I would never want to hurt my chances with the wonderful oportunity you've presented me, but I've made some very important personal committments for the first week of June (don't call it a vacation). Do you see any way I could fulfill my duties to you without going back on those committments?"

If they are intractable and it's a great job......you have to decide.
Hope you get a great job!:D

lol, because if you read that line, you'll get the first week off, and not the second.

Moot point.

Ignore me

And now for something completely different . . .

A man with a tape recorder up his nose.

Ah, the same kind of humor my friend has. Always goes over my head the first go 'round, and cracks me up the second time. I love it!

Lol

Then you'll fall for Marxist, or PC, or Dillinger, not me my dear. Though glad I could be of some small assistance this night.

Good luck on the finals. I'm planning to come down again on Sunday in a couple of weeks. Perhaps you can join the clan.
