Insisting on being called “Doctor” when you don’t heal people is, among most holders of doctorates, seen as a gauche, silly, cringey ego trip. Consider “Dr.” Jill Biden, who doesn’t even hold a Ph.D. but rather a lesser Ed.D., something of a joke in the academic world. a senators wife goes a long way in that enhancement which may lead to an endowment

siblings and families have access to wondrous opportunities not afforded to the average joe that are available to friends and family of the senator Joe

This is a very proper and pertinent point. It is the same thing that drives so many companies to reward Hunter Biden in that you cannot directly bribe the politician but you can curry his/her favor through the family. For the university to have access to the ear of a Senator through his wife (shades of Stranger in a Strange Land) is an invaluable asset to them and very much probably part of the calculus used in awarding her a degree based upon less than doctoral achievement. The parallel is how rich Hunter got with no business experience.
