"Is that my stomach or am I just happy to see ya?"

And the upshot of all this sturm und dang:
The local artist who designed a crucifix some say shows genitalia on Jesus plans to modify the piece in effort to end the controversy it has caused. Janet Jaime, an Oklahoma City iconographer, came under fire for a crucifix she designed that since February has been above the main altar at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Warr Acres. Church officials now plan to remove the crucifix so Jaime can modify it.
At issue is Jesus’ abdominal area, which some say looks like a large penis. The church’s pastor released a statement to parishioners Friday announcing the crucifix would be modified.

 If the artist hadn't done that intentionally, then that's the largest … Freudian gaffe I've ever seen. :D

I'm sure if you're brave enough to ask any fundie about it, they'll tell you that he never did.

The Miraclulous Erection? The Heavenly Hard-On? The Divine Dick?

Sure, and they'll never admit to playing with themselves either.

Sunday morning thoughts from pew 7 seat 6. "Why isn't my Walter hung like Jesus."

It's childish saying he has a bone, in reality it's shoddy craftsmanship. Most artists just give Jesus a six pack like he's the Situation from Jersey Shore. People are used to the white, long haired, totally ripped image of Jesus, they don't want you to mess with any of it.

The cowardly Usual Suspects always fuck with Jesus cuz they'd eat their balls raw if they did the same with Mohammed.

Click on 3113's first link and scroll down a bit. The image they provided is different. Unless it's been photoshopped, I'm afraid it looks kind of shunga.

Yeah, sort of like a fraternity prank.

You certainly can't see it in this picture. I'm guessing it's a matter of "If you want to see a pony, you will." Once someone saw it and pointed it out, they all saw it. Frankly, even in the video there when I first glanced at it, I didn't see it. I think because I'm familiar with this medieval style, and just took the weird stomach shape often seen in such images for granted.

On second look, of course, I saw what all the whoo-ha was about.

Had a rough week, sweetie?
Very rough, apparently, since (1) This isn't an art show where the suggestiveness was done on purpose to make a statement; this was artwork for a church and was intended to be reverential, and (2) Pictures of Mohammad are forbidden, period, so no artist could ever give a Mosque such an image (deliberately sacrilegious or not)

It's Christianity's downfall that it happens to like having pictures and images of it's founder in its churches. Hence, the possibility of the artist presenting an image that might offend someone.

Made I larf!

The painter is pretty upset and is reworking the icon now. She is a highly respected religious artist, and would never have done something like that on purpose.

DEFCON 5 BS ALERT.

The artist was trying to be clever. Amputate her fucking hands.

My sister's church has had a modern stained-glass window behind the altar for decades in which, once it's pointed out, you can't see anything but a golfer connecting with the ball on a big swing.

:D

My mother has an ancient linoleum floor with a sort of confetti pattern, and one bit of it made a really beautiful fish...

Humans are pattern seeking animals.

If that's supposed to be a representation of the Crucifixion, I think the "artist" needs his head bumping. Even the old icons are not like that.
It's bloody awful 'art'.
