Well almost. If I'd been there 10 minutes earlier I would have.

I got off the train in the city to do some shopping, and immediately spotted Police and Fire Crews just a little up the street in the direction I was heading. I could see a plume of dust settling, and it appeared to be right next to the store I was intending to shop at. I walked up to the dust, and this frigging building had collapsed. And it WAS the building I was intending to shop at. I missed the earlier train by seconds. If I hadn't, I'd have been inside it.

I spoke to an officer there, and he told me that the building had collapsed about 10 minutes earlier, and it was unclear if anyone had been hurt yet. I haven't heard the news, so I'm not sure if anyone was. But it seriously looked like a bomb had hit it, and If I had been in there, there's a good chance I'd be in hospital or the morgue right now. It kind of freaked me out.

See... that's another reason to slow down in this frantic paced world.
So happy you were not there.

*hug* Jeeze man - don't scare us like that!

I sure have wondered myself a few times, when things happened to me that I thought awkward at that moment , what they were good for. You missing the train and probably being pissed off is one of those things I am talking about ... see now, it WAS GOOD for something ... for you not having been in that building!!

I am glad to see you are fine!

Doesn't it make you wonder if some guardian angel was lookin' out for you, MD? Did you think back to what happened to make you miss the earlier train? I would have. ;)

Jesus Christ! A building fell on me!

Tonight on "Trauma-Life In The ER".

Wow!

So scary, I'm so glad you weren't hurt!!

I had a similar thing happen, but not so "close" as yours.

When I was 16 and went to Berlin, Germany, I partied in a club where the US soldiers hung out a lot.
One year later, on that exact date, terrorists blew up the club killing a lot of people. At the time, I thought it was eerie, since it was the same date and all. I can't imagine 10 minutes shy of the whole deal.

I repeat the "wow" part.
Apparently it wasn't your FATE to be there. I don't technically believe in fate, but I imagine a thing like that would make you do a bit of introspection.
So glad you're ok!

Near misses.

I was on a motorcycle with a friend once when he ran a red light. Dangerous as that was, it turned out to be safer than waiting for the green - the car waiting at the light blew up; flames, billowing smoke, we would've been blown into well cooked kibbles and bits had we stayed (we were kind of tipped off that something wasn't right when we noticed that the car had no one in it). Since we were just passing through town and didn't catch the nightly news there, to this day I still have no idea what that was all about.

In the not-so-near miss department, on two separate occasions, two friends of mine have had their ceilings collapse right on top of them while they were laying in bed (fortunately, neither of them were seriously injured). Last night, right above my head where I was trying to sleep, I heard my upstairs neighbor thundering through the apartment above like a herd of elephants. In my over active imagination, I swear I caught the whiff of plaster dust.

Ask not for whom the ceiling tolls.

I been there before I went to the winston cup in North Carilonia to see the Nascar race..The night that we got out a bridge we were going to cross collapsed we didn't make it to the bridge...90 people got hurt
