"Jeffrey Sachs: "I chaired a commission for the Lancet for two years on COVID. I'm pretty convinced it [COVID] came out of U.S. lab biotechnology, not out of nature. "

Jeffrey Sacks might be a controversial economist, but he appears to have expert backing:
Neil Harrison, a Columbia University professor of molecular pharmacology and therapeutics:

May 20, 2022

"Writing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Sachs and his co-author, Neil Harrison, a Columbia University professor of molecular pharmacology and therapeutics, said that federal agencies and universities possess evidence that has not been adequately reviewed, including virus databases, biological samples, viral sequences, email communications, and laboratory notebooks.

Sachs and Harrison also highlighted a tantalizing scientific detail that may be an indication that SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, originated in a laboratory: a sequence of eight amino acids on a critical part of the virus’s spike protein that is identical to an amino acid sequence found in cells that line human airways.

Sachs and Harrison write. “We do know that the insertion of such FCS sequences into SARS-like viruses was a specific goal of work proposed by the EHA-WIV-UNC partnership within a 2018 grant proposal (“DEFUSE”) that was submitted to the US Defense Advanced Research Projects (DARPA).”

Awesome that you brought this up again....because it needs more discussion

the lame cover-up?
of course it needs,
China&US killed millions through their recklessness and negligence

i'm waiting to hear what sort of mini-Frankenstein viruses, Americans have been researching in Ukraine too

I actually heard about it on Jimmy Dore

He made an excellent skit on how they tried to discredit anyone who didn;t endorse Faucci

A few bat coronaviruses in Asia are almost identical to the first strains of COVID-19. The Wuhan Institute of Virology was working with some American companies with Pentagon contracts to collect viruses that could be weaponized or could naturally evolve to harm humans.

I believe that the pre-COVID virus was found and shipped to Wuhan where it was tinkered with so that it would be more transmissible to humans. Once the virus was created, poor biosecurity allowed it to escape through the workers at Wuhan. These workers spread the virus when they themselves went to the hospital. From there it went everywhere. After it got out, I believe that the Chinese government locked down any and all information coming out of the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The international partners all realized that if the public ever found out that they made the virus and let it loose, no one would fund gain of function research for generations (and they all see GoF as critical to our proactive defense against the next plague) - so they all pretended that they had nothing to do with the whole affair. No one wants to be blamed for the deaths of millions of people, so everyone either shut up, or went into full on attack mode against anyone who didn't toe the line.

COVID was the problem that it is because of these people, and they are going to get away with it.

There's a spark of truth in what you say.

All research, no matter what the field, is a series of building blocks. New research is based on previous research. In some instances the roots can be traced back to antiquity. The reason research is published is so that succeeding researchers can build upon the base. There can be no doubt that the base research that led to the Wuhan Flu originated in the US, or at least part of it. All research papers are essentially "How To" manuals there was no need for anyone to ship any progenitor virus anywhere, most of the labs engaged in that research already had the root virus.

As explicitly stated in the linked article, the proposal submitted to DARPA was not funded, at least not funded by DARPA. However, the proposal was out there in the open and anyone could have picked up on that research. The funding, in part, could have been via a NIH grant funneled through an intermediary (mentioned in the article).

What IS interesting about the article is that it ties the origin of the Wuhan Flu back to genetic engineering and that is contrary to everything we've been told by the research community that has a vested interest in NOT being held accountable. The article also explicitly implies that the source of the release of the virus into the public was the Wuhan lab.

All such research is inherently dangerous but it won't stop. We're going to do it because they're going to do it and they're going to do it because we're going to do it. It is an arms race of sorts.

The majority of scientific exploration of things that kill us continues to focus on things that can kill us by looking at the things that can kill us and figuring out how to stop it from killing us.

People watch too many movies.

Weird thing is...when people studied things that don't kill us, they did not discover anything about preventing things that do kill is.

Here's the thing, though. If human beings see something potentially dangerous and then make it actually dangerous and then mishandle it so that the thing they made actually starts killing people, then can we really blame the precursor virus?

The virus was a potential problem. We made it into something that could kill people. Seems to me like the real problem was us tinkering with it when we could not control it.

We studied it to learn more about it At times some folks poked it a little to see how it might mutate.

Either we do nothing and learn nothing or we don't. There's dangers on both tracks.

Reddit’s always the best source for the truth about complex scientific issues.
There's actually another source up there, and the reddit thread contains multiple additional sources to videos and informative sites.

But yah ...reddit.¯\(°_o)/¯

Overall though, the whole, "we shouldn't mess with nature because it's unnatural" argument is lost on me. We've fucked with mother nature for our entire existence on the planet ..which is why you're having a discussion about it on your phone. That's the type of perspective that leads to "I don't need medicine because God will save me"........fuck that.

Dumb simps like rockhead think Twitter and reddit are news sources.

how do you think vaccines and treatments are made?

wow. just wow.
Schism, we CREATED COVID-19. We took a virus that was not harmful to people and made it harmful to people. Yes, the people who support gain of function research were trying to get ahead of the curve. They said "this is what it would look like if it was a problem for people. Now, how can we defeat this?", but the reality is that the monster that we all dealt with wasn't a naturally occuring mutation. The monster that killed millions of people was made. They were trying to find a cure to a disease that didn't exist yet, and in so doing, they created the disease.

Okay, but weren't you the one who always tried to convince me of how lethal and dangerous COVID was? I kept on saying that statistically it wasn't a big deal, and you kept on saying that it was a huge deal to the people who died, and how millions of dead people is by it's very nature a big deal? How can you of all people just shrug and say that it is acceptable to kill millions of people so we can get a vaccine to a flu that doesn't even exist yet?

I'm not saying "we shouldn't mess with nature because it's unnatural". I'm saying that we shouldn't mess with nature because humans are fucking retarded.

COVID is an EXCELLENT example of this. We went out, found a virus, made it a problem, lost control of it and then overreacted with an authoritarian binge that knocked the legs out from under our economy. It's like reacting to a mosquito buzzing around your car by driving off of a cliff. This is the moral of so many stories (Frankenstein, Jurassic Park, etc.), we just fail to learn the lessons. We have more power than we can responsibly wield. We mess with nature and we fuck things up because we are simple and dim witted and think we know everything. We don't. We are fools. We need more humility.

Yes, we actually study viruses like this so that we can get to a vaccine quickly if it were to occur, because we understand it better. The deaths would've been much higher without the vaccines which were developed quickly because we understood the virus better. If the studies wouldnt have been done,.many more people would've died.

There is not sufficient evidence to say we created the virus. At worst, we brought the virus into an area which allowed it to jump to humans.

If they did not create the virus, it would not have killed anyone.
