So, if he gets 'Rump-dumped, will he run for his old job again? Or maybe POTUS?

What would he do in the meantime?

Oh, but you're a few days behind. Kelly has phoned him to tell him his job is safe.

Possible futures:

* Tromp fires Sessions and any other recuse-niks, appoints some underling as temp AG to fire more people including Mueller, and celebrates by ritually sacrificing hamsters. Sessions moves on to a think-tank and writes a memoir.

* Sessions just fucking quits and moves to the think-tank / memoir scene. Nobody much notices him afterwards, even if he does commentaries on Fox.

* Swarms of flesh-eating worms devour Sessions and his armed entourage. Poisoned, the worms die horribly.

* Mueller's grand juries indict Sessions and others. The former senator and AG ends life a prisoner with HAWK'S BABY tattooed on his ass.

* Sessions' DoJ busts everybody who ever said anything unkind about Tromp. And anyone suspected of being liberal, foreign, feminist, thoughtful, educated, etc. Tromp praises their efforts while cutting their budget.

* Sessions appears on FACE THE NATION, screams "What's the frequency?" and shoves small brass blades into his eye sockets. Hilarity ensues.

Improbable, you say? Yeah, but polls are wrong. Stuff happens anyway.

And the Senate is Pro Forma still in session so Trump can't dump him and recess appoint a new asshole.:)

Kelly might be so effective that the media promote him as a competent alternative POTUS for 2020. Love to see how Trump would respond to that theft of his limelight. :D

And that's how anti-Kelly players would demolish him, by taking the spotlight away from POTUS, who hates inattention. Enough headlines calling Kelly a shadow president should have some effect.
