is so comforting to listen to while I work. Nothing like signing a deal with flourish while grooving to the smooth tunes of Sade.

I bought Babyface's new cd last night - it is a collection of his best hits and Kenny G plays on one of his songs "Every time I close my eyes" I think it is.. the sax is so pretty.

Anyone else listen to music at work or have a thing for jazz?

c'mon Delbert McClinton fans, unite.

sorry.. but I just thought of a post script.

What particular song or artist evokes the most intense memories for you?

I am ashamed to be associated with the likes of you, please turn me off, and get to work.

Dave Brubeck ...

... and the fantastic album made during his famous 1950's tour of the USSR and Eastern European satellite countries.

But now I just click on Beethoven.com and let the day's newest classical delight fill the room. This new computer with the terrific speakers may use the !@#$#@!! Windows systems (I wanna Mac G4 cube!) but at least it hooks up well with webcasts.

Okay Vix, not intended to......

Burst yer bubble here but - that "stuff" you mentioned - well it ain't really jazz.

What is it then? Right?

Well it's the pablum the music suits have decided will sell to those who have not really been dexposed to real jazz - it's "safe" jazz, comercial "light" jazz. It's McJazz.

There's a reason everybody makes fun of Kenny "Butt Boy" G'eeeeee. You know - powder his ass and throw him into the Greek baths down town. And Sade' - hot piece that - but her schtick has all been done thuroughly before - 40's, 50's and early 60's in Paris, Germany and other choice Euro locals. Basic sultery Caberet.

Real jazz is all, all, all - American. It can be intimidating in some of it's "out" Be-Bop forms - but it can also be so, so enlightening too.

Me? I'm pretty much a blues based rocker - but over the last 5 or 6 years I've grown tired of formulaic rock and blues and all it's derivatives.

Buy one CD to start - Miles Davis "Kind of Blue." It's like Sgt. Pepper, the Whitle Album, Exile on Main St., and Dark Side of The Moon - all rolled into one - only for the musical medium of jazz.

Check it out - listen carefully - I'm sure "you in particular" will be able to tell to hear - exactly - what "cool" is.

Now, I think, after minimal listening to jazz over the last few years, that real jazz muscians are the end all and be all of all musicians - beating out even some of the most sophisticated clasical composers - why? Complexity and creativity. The clasic dudes are just too fucking white and can't swing, bop or rip. Major sticks up their collective asses. Anyway..... Miles, the man. Charlie Parker. Mingus. Thelonius. The Godfathers of modern jazz. Please give them a try.

PS - pardon my spelling - no spell check and as you all know - I suck at that stuff.

sparky! good to have you back

And I didn't mean to lump Sade, McClinton and Kenny in with "Jazz" in general, but I suppose I did, eh?

I have Miles Davis and I agree with you. I too am mostly blues but jazz and psuedo-jazz gets me in the groove at work.

Mingus, Thelonius- I don't have, but I will take your advice and check them out, thanks!

I may be going to Memphis later this year for the express purpose of checking out some of the blues clubs there. Believe it or not I've been practically everywhere in the US except for Memphis! hehe.

Hope you had a great Christmas sparks.

LOL Troll

goody! Seems like since I'm not all sugary sweet and loving all the time someone has taken a dislike to me? Well it's about fucking time. hehe

Yet another example of.....

jealousy among the women here on the board.

Amazing. Personally, I'd like to see all these women get it on - physically and/or sexually - a grudge match, a cage match - pussy on pussy, tits on tits - then and only then would I submit to cyber sex.

Sparky will you be my mentor?LOL

I'll second the motion while i'm here. C-c-c-c-cat fight....purrrrrrrrrrr

My theory is.........

That sure this could be a male troll - but I doubt it.

During the huge troll fad - some males, even me for approximatley 6 posts, found it humorous. But it got boring real fast. I tend to think that most of the other guys here would see trolling in a similar way.

Most don't give a shit if they are ID'd.

It's some (I think primarily only one) who present themselves as trolls. And females are most of the guests/virigns too. Sorry to sound so piggish but - it's just a catty, girly thing to do - at least the way I see and read it here.

This one in particular - a woman - simply jealous of you Vix. And hey - why wouldn't they be? Actually, they ought to be trying to get in your pants like everyone else is.

Jazz?

Darlin', while I appreciate the shout-out, I ain't never been called a jazzman before. Country-blues/R&B is more my thang...

sparks...

well, ok then. I understand your assessment and from this point on feel it childish, petty and self-absorbant to respond to people who.... although they frequent the board, find it difficult to voice their opinion of me publicly.

I feel that I stand above all this nonsense in that I would never choose to respond to anyone without attaching my handle to such a comment.

I, like anyone, want people to read my posts, to respond, to provoke thought and encourage honesty... but if someone has issues with me, and that person doesn't want to be viewed as being human.. i.e., having a contradictory opinion, I fault them nothing as long as they are aware that their cloak in itself portrays a petty childish backlash that accomplishes nothing but reflection upon their true nature.

Laurel and Manu know. They know who is who and who posts what. I'm secure in myself and my knowledge that I'm pristine compared to their ugly attacks

Screw them TN, I like ya just fine. Though I'm not above a fun catfight just to tease the hell out of the guys.

I like to listen to Yanni, even though it's not jazz. I don't listen to jazz, it's pretty much lost on me. Though I imagine Anthrax is lost on you as well.
