Hi All,

I'm a 30yo Irish male and I will be travelling to Japan in a few months.
I'd like to talk to people how have visited or that live there and see if there are any tips they can give me.
Any advice on where to go what to do etc. etc.

Feel free to reply here or to PM me.

Thanks in advance,
Marcus

Have you decided where you’re looking to travel in Japan? What are your main interests? Food? Historical buildings? Shopping centers? Tourist attractions? Out doorsy type activities?

General rule of thumb is to bring comfortable walking shoes. Japan doesn’t carry antiperspirant so bring your own. I recommend the Tsukiji fish market to everyone. (Funny thing is some of the tuna there is caught near Boston.) Onsens are a great way to relax but beware, some places don’t allow tattooed individuals access. If you are a foodie, you can still have a meal prepared by one of the original iron chefs (excluding Morimoto). Don’t know when you’re exactly going but the Japanese embrace dressing on Halloween in Tokyo. Renting a love hotel can be cheaper than an actual hotel. Don’t forget, you can air bnb for lodging.

My two cents and some.

Hi Lotus,
Thanks for the advice. Going to be in Japan for roughly 2 weeks in Jan 2019. Starting in Tokyo then Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshama and Hakone. I didnt know about the antiperspirant so thanks for that. More than likely will be lots of outdoor activites and history stuff with trying all the different food I can in the evening time.
