CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Reuters) - A federal judge imposed a life sentence on the self-described neo-Nazi who killed Heather Heyer by crashing his car into a crowd of counterprotesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, after a white supremacist rally, saying release would be "too great a risk."

The 22-year-old neo-Nazi, James Fields of Maumee, Ohio, was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. He had sought a lesser sentence, apologizing after the court viewed video of him plowing his car into a crowd after the Aug. 12, 2017, "Unite the Right" rally, also injuring 19 people.

Not to mention it wasn't a "mishap". They have him on camera driving away from the crowds, then turn around at the top of the hill and accelerate into the crowd.

The people claiming he was the one being attacked cleverly never mention the reason he was running away was because he had just killed the girl and the crowd was trying to prevent him being an even bigger coward by running away from his crimes.

i don't know what that is, but i'd like to see jails made safer places for anyone put inside. the punishment aspect is to deprive them of their freedom in order to keep others safe. but, as a society, how we treat our prisoners (and by that i mean any society, not america alone) says a lot about our humanity.

if this guy is actually mentally ill, i can be disgusted by his crimes without wanting to see him come to harm.

He took the plea because otherwise he was facing the death penalty. Death penalty cases are tough to prosecute because you have to really prove your case.
