He called out the EU leaders to their face and put them on notice as to the US position on their antics. Needless to say they were outraged, insulted. And that was the entire point of the speech because Vance wasn't speaking to them, they're a lost cause. He was speaking to their citizens and that is probably going to be the administrations policy going forward.

"Munich speech." . . . Did you actually intend to draw the obvious parallel with Chamberlain?!

In this scenario, Putin is Hitler. Just so we're clear.

Good luck with that!

Lol
It's not our administration's problem, is it? The European 'elite' are going to have to get out there and convince their citizens that they can't believe "their lying eyes."

The Eurozone is going to get interesting.

He was speaking to their citizens
No, he wasn't. He was speaking to ours.

BBC:

This year's Munich Security Conference (MSC) was supposed to be primarily about two things: how to end the war in Ukraine without giving in to Russia, and how Europe needed to boost its spending on defence.

But the most senior American present, US Vice President JD Vance, used his time at the podium to talk about neither.

Instead, he shocked delegates on Friday by roundly attacking Washington's allies, including Britain, in a blistering attack decrying misinformation, disinformation, and the rights of free speech.

It was a very weird 20 minutes - one met largely with silence from delegates in the hall.

Even a joke, "if American democracy can survive 10 years of [climate campaigner] Greta Thunberg scolding, you guys can survive a few months of Elon Musk", failed to raise a single laugh.

He accused European governments of retreating from their values, and ignoring voter concerns on migration and free speech.

Vance's speech went down very badly - unequivocally badly. It was extraordinarily poorly judged.

But who was it aimed at?

A US commentator said to me afterwards: "That was all for US domestic consumption."

Wow, a government media outlet pukes garbage. How did that work out for CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, etc?

German chancellor slams Vance's call for Europe to be inclusive of far-right parties

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz sharply rebuked U.S. Vice President JD Vance on Saturday, a day after Vance gave a speech saying European leaders should not shun far-right political parties.

At the second day of the Munich Security Conference, Scholz spoke about the atrocities of the Holocaust, pointing out that Vance recently visited the Dachau concentration camp and used the phrase "never again."

Scholz emphasized that a commitment to "never again" also applies to political parties like Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany party, also known as the AfD, which has downplayed the horrors of the Nazi regime.

He went on to say Germany will not accept outsiders intervening in the country's elections, adding: "That is not done, certainly not among friends and allies."

Both Scholz and Vance's remarks come just over a week before Germany heads into a major election. The AfD — which has been endorsed by Trump adviser and billionaire Elon Musk — is polling in second place.

John Major accuses US of 'cuddling' up to Putin as he condemns JD Vance's Munich speech

Democracy across the globe is under threat from the retreat of Donald Trump’s America into isolationism, and its likely replacement by Russia or China, John Major has said in notably pointed and outspoken comments.

The former UK prime minister, who rarely offers direct opinion on contemporary politics, used an interview with BBC radio to call Trump’s administration unlike anything he had seen in the past – and to warn that Washington might live to regret ceding the world stage to a more autocratic power.

He also condemned JD Vance, the US vice-president, as hypocritical and “not statesmanlike” for lecturing Europe on free speech while also “cuddling” Vladimir Putin’s Russia.

That is not what we expect from the foremost nation in the free world. It’s certainly not statesmanship, and it potentially gives off very dangerous signals.

It’s extremely odd to lecture Europe on the subject of free speech and democracy at the same time as they’re cuddling Mr. Putin.

In Mr. Putin’s Russia, people who disagree with him disappear or die or flee the country, or, on the statistically unlikely level, fall out of high windows somewhere in Moscow.

Good luck with that!

Lol
Hmmm, Feb. 9th, Damn near a week ago. Stale news.
Rebel you’re a racist and I don’t think very much of your sniveling ass - you know that. But if this f’in idiot Lance is telling you that what you’re suggesting is garbage then maybe you should stop to listen.

Also, my side recognizes that it’s a cottage industry for you to wring your hands and breathe out a sigh and then come here to sane wash the shit trump and all his cronies speak. Lol, you’re terrible at it and Lance sees 🤣.

They won't have to do much to convince them the present American administration is crazy, stupid, corrupt, and incompetent.

A personal opinion masquerading as speaking for multiple foreign population.
It is an opinion most of the world already shares, in case you haven't noticed.

Undiscovered tribes in the Amazon rainforest sit around in the evening discussing what a stupid asshole Trump is.

Now most of the world. You're mind reading abilities are beyond compare.
The whole world spent Trump's first term laughing at the U.S. There is no reason to think their estimation of Trump has improved.
