I will wait a moment for the cheering to stop to explain that is's not what you were hoping for.

I submitted a name change several weeks ago, and it finally came through last night. iwatchus is now old_prof. When I first signed up a decade ago, I thought I would write almost exclusively E&V stories. When I started writing almost ten months ago, I did start out writing all E&V. I have written only one E&V story in my last 25 stories, ironically, the very last one published as iwatchus. The name was starting to bother me, so I had decided to swap names. This one feels much more like me.

They have changed my name almost everywhere. Quoted replies here didn't change, but I understand that.

Unfortunately, my name is not changed as the author on stories themselves. And that name is now a dead link, so someone reading an old story of mine cannot see my story list by clicking on it. :(

Maybe that will clear itself up over the next day or so.

I have a strong suspicion that stories are now published with a snapshot of the author's account as it exists at the time the story is published.
I have 75 followers and 10 stories. If I open my stories, seven of them show me as having 75 followers:

An essay I wrote at the end of February shows me as having 74 followers, and an EV story from that same day shows 73. And my holiday entry, published November 27, shows 71.

So who in all the hell even knows what's going on!

Oh boy, another stellar engineering decision on the part of Lit. I sort of suspected this; it's why I'm always using old-style, numeric ID links when I point to other author profiles in my stories.

There’s no single version of the truth concept here. Different pages cache their own copies of data and refresh at different times.

The number of followers has always varied AFAIK. Initially I suspected people ( or cats ) were tapping the follow/unfollow button because they didn't intend to follow me... I'd recommend not looking at single numbers but ask "Is it over 70 this month?"

It's less variance in followers and more that the number is different if I open two stories at the same time. They've been consistent for the last 24 hours, too.

I was "sub joe", but those words were too short for me to do a vanity search, so I changed my name. Then I was someone else, then I was me. Not sure who'll I'll be next year. I have a female alt that's dormant, I might become her and re-upload all my lezdom stories.

We have her on our watch list

This new name is just to justify your habit of grading papers whilst in the middle of the act, right?
If by the act, you mean hanging out on AH, yeah I'm doing this while I grade. It lets me cling onto a vague illusion of sanity.

This would have taken me forever to figure out without the announcement. So thank you

"Poor, iwatchus, alas, I knew him well. @old_prof: a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy: he hath borne me on his back a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! My gorge rims at it. Here hung those lips that I have kissed, I know not how oft. Where be your gibes now? Your gambols? Your songs? Your flashes of merriment, that were wont to set the table on a roar? Not one now, to mock your own grinning? Quite chap-fallen? Now get you to my lady’s chamber, and tell her, let her paint an inch thick, to this favour she must come; make her laugh at that.

Oh - I can hear David Tennant
