Are you saying the movie glorified war?

never seen it. I'm partial to the Rambo series, it's a better representation of what war is really like.

its a good flix

but what really insensed me was they should have shot that little writer fukker who if in the first place shot that german tom hanks would have gotten shot 2 pieces' at the end:eek:

Which war is that movie about? All those war movies look the same to me.

I knew I should have stayed out of this thread. Serves me right.

Have you figured out that the film isn't about Tom Hanks or Matt Damon's character yet?

Private Who?

Never saw it. Now Catch 22-- that's a war movie I like.

There's also Kubrick's relatively little known Paths to Glory-- excellent film.

As much as I hate to say it...

I'm with you on this one. War is ugly business. I'm not sure people know what they are asking for when they want one.

No, he's pointing out that the movie definately does not glorify it, and is wondering why some people do... in many cases, young people.

I have to admitt that i don't understand the "glory" or the "justification" of war either (never seen the film).

War is not nice.

-- Barbara Bush

I understand what you said PP. And I agree. You will never see a warrior glorify war.

Red Wave. For someone who seems to know quite a little about a lot of things, I can not believe you have not seen this movie.

StoneFox... Have you seen the movie? God I hope not. I wouldn't feel so bad if you haven't. But if you did see it, and you do not know what war it was... Some teachers of yours need to be fired.

70/30 - never seen it. I'm partial to the Rambo series, it's a better representation of what war is really like. Bullshit. Bullshit bullshit bullshit.

somebody told me there was cheese here. i see they were wrong.

heads will roll.

Saving Private Ryan should be mandatory in school

Having been through a few firefights, the movie captures it well. The initial confusion, fear, visual distortion, and the incredible fucking noise! I mean, every little sound is amplified since your body's in survival mode. Pretty soon you adapt to the din, and get on with the mission, depending on your sergeants.
When I watched it, it kicked the same physical responses that I had years earlier. I understand why some D-day vets had heart attacks from the same responses.
Another movie that does it to me is Apocalypse Now, the firefight on the river with the tracers coming out of the jungle at you. (shiver)
Last one is Firebase Gloria, shows both sides of Tet '68.
I think these movies should be shown to students close to graduation, so they understand the brutality of the World "out there"! :D

high school students?

Repeat..over....comm malfunction..

I forgot, nowadays everybody "graduates" from different grades to "up" their esteem. I meant High School grads, if it was college grads, the point of the movies would be moot, unless to inspire anti-militarism demonstrations, and anything else the mindless idiots are told to do by their professors! :D

in that case, i offer my original words of wisdom, which i neglected to give earlier....

HAH!

if that would work, then i'm a bearded gnome.

I only hope you are joking....otherwise rent the movie and watch the Omaha Beach landing again......Stalone would have been shitting in his pants, like most of the GI's did that day.

Its almost TOO REAL......

And that's exactly what warfare is like...

No clean deaths but limbs being blown off, soldiers crying for their mothers in the midst of death and destruction all around them, men trying to push their intestines back into their bodies with bloodied, slippery hands, medics having their faces erupt from a hail of bullets as they're trying to help others. And you pray and hope that you die quickly and not lie wounded on the ground slit from neck to groin as your life seeps away.

And as Lost Cause says...the noise!

If you don't hear what's being said the first time. Tough, there's no second chance. No time for pleasant battlefied chats...

And it's into that type of environment our Leaders are hell bent on sending our young...

Fuck 'em all and let them go in first for a change...
