I've been censored. (Not political. Or is it?)

Facebook removed the page I put up for my book Picking On Retards. They said it is hateful, threatening, and/or obscene. It's actually one of the most positive, life affirming, nice things I've ever written. But they wouldn't know, having censored it for a word in the title. A word that is completely acceptable according to federal broadcast standards.

A page they have left up - one about praying for the death of Barack Obama.

Somehow a word, any word, is worse than praying for another human being to die. Doesn't make sense to me. And while I disagree with the Death to Obama page, I don't support the idea of that person being censored along with me. Hell, I see more offensive Facebook wall posts on a daily basis than anything in my book.

Without blowing it for anyone who was hoping - I'd like to tell them that it's not a "how to" book.

I recognize that the word "retard" is considered an offensive word by some. My book isn't about the word, it's about getting beyond the word. It's about an idea. Seems more offensive to me to be offended by an idea and to enforce censorship.

I wonder how to get around it without mentioning the title that was censored?

you can put in a request to facebook about the content (possibly send them an excerpt) and let them make a judgement that way. I had to do that with a group I created that contains adult content --it was taken down then once I petitioned it they put it back up. I almost wonder if it is computer based and if certain keywords appear it is automatically shut down.

I'll be amazed if it works. You've run smack into the jaws of "political correctness." You've used a verboten word. All the logic and common sense in the world is impotent in the face of "one size fits all" nameless bureaucracy.

Really, who could handle the trauma of seeing something like that? The horror of the female breast serving it's natural purpose. If someone is offended by seeing that we should probably protect them from being offended by gouging out their eyes. Can you imagine trying to function in the world with such delicate sensibilities? He's talking about me. I have him and four more on ignore. He calls if censorship. I call it my right not to listen to his crap. His took an amendment. Mine is pure choice.

Sorry about your book page. There is a way of pulling up the ownership page with contact information from the Internet. For the life of me I can't remember at the moment but I know there are several people here that can remember. Getting old is a bitch.

I have a friend who is a photographer, and others who are burlesque performers. both of them have gotten "banned" on Facebook, which happens when your pics get "reported". I think they have a program that looks for nipples. Seriously. Nipples.
