They probably will. But the thing is, the actual value of was the verification, that's now dropped.

A real example. A guy went volunteering to fight in Ukraine. Had a Twitter account, started posting there, got huge following for the frontline updates. Joined up with one of the donations drives. There was an impersonation attempt or two even before that, but with the donations the real shit started with the scammers pretending to be him. Solution was a campaign to get him the verification badge, in expedited order. Afterwards, the problems and attacks ended.

That's what's the badge is/was about.

A badge someone paid $8 without ID verification is absolutely worthless.

I didn’t realize that dropping the verification process was part of Musk’s plan. If that is true, I agree the blue check is useless.

The blue check has never been about accurate content. Blue checks tweet all kinds of crazy ass shit. The designation is supposed to ensure the person making tweets isn’t an imposter. For example, AOC probably would not be happy if other people were pretending to be a clueless Congresswoman from the district she represents. If the $8 fee is imposed, she’ll pay it.
