Actually...I've never met Professor Gates, but I know of his reputation. We have several friends in common. Cambridge is not such a big place and I'm surprised, shocked, that the Cambridge police did not know who Professor Gates is. His professional reputation and nasty attitude preceeds him.

Skip Gates is a bitter man with an entitled attitude, so says my friends, people who have met him and who know him well. He is a man with few friends.

I also know some Cambridge cops, too. Too many of them are white and Irish, just as Boston's finest. Quick to judgement, Boston, as well as Cambridge is a racist city. Notwithstanding, good or bad, police don't appreciate being abused by anyone black or white.

This entire thing has blown out of proportion. The only winner in this is Professor Gates and it wouldn't surprise me if he orchestrated the entire thing to sell more copies of his books that don't generally sell.

CNN gives as much air to this as they did when Britney went around town flashing her pussy.

My sympathies to the police officers around the country. This negative exposure makes their difficult job more difficult. Professor Gates needs to act more like the teacher that he is instead of the victim that he is not.

Normally, I'm the first one to defend the underdog, but both sides are stubbornly not backing down. They both owe all of us an apology for wasting our time and taking the president away from the health care agenda.

Just my two cents for what it's worth.

Sure. Gates went to jail for Disrespect of Cop. Shit I was a state officer and a few Barney Fife's wanted to run me in on the goddamned job. They dont like attitude from nobody. Even their sergeants.You oughta see a cop when his sergeant is climbing his ass. If looks could kill.

But Gates was wrong. The cop was there on an official investigation and Gates coulda cooperated with some ID. The cop wasnt fuckin Crime Watch!
