It's probably a good thing I don't have a machine shop I can play in. I would probably either kill myself or get arrested because of my curious nature.

For many years I read Military Sci-Fi along with more traditional Military History. (Alas I have had to drop the Military Sci-Fi for a couple of reason. Not least is the lack of good authors.)

That being said I can remember many weapons talked about in the Sci-Fi books. Weapons that got my attention and seem like reasonable ideas. With a machine shop at my use I would probably be tempted to recreate some of them.

Like I said, this is probably a good thing. (Although I'm sure I could have fun playing with the ideas.)

Depending on the era, you don't need a full machine shop. If you were to settle for some Steampunk or British Empire weaponry, all you would need is a belt grinder, a propane torch and some taps and dies. Single shot actions can be made quite readily. Jus' sayin . . . http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii177/1volupturary_manque/whistles.gif

BTW, so can a Gatling gun.

So can Flame Throwers of many types, Mortars, Rocket Launchers and area denial weapons. (Don't ask.:rolleyes:)

No I'm more interested in things like Cone Rifles and Sliver Throwers.

Uh, while it's possible you could surprise me with ideas along these lines, it isn't likely. I know all sorts of improvised weaponry. It doesn't interest me much. But I like ol' timey things. ;)

You and me could have fun in an empty field I'm sure. Flames, Smoke, explosions and toxic gasses. (And we're not even talking about the effects of lunch.)

Tell me, have you ever seen what happens when you nestle a tightly sealed, water filled iron ball in Dry Ice? It's rather impressive.

I may have to read a bit more Steam Punk.

Oh, if you ever want to scare the crap out of someone. Fill a 2 Liter Soda bottle with Dry Ice, Cap it and toss it in their yard.

Once upon a time I had the Special Forces TM on improvised munitions. I bought it to get it off the shelves of a particularly slimy survivalist store I was in. Some Seriously Scary Shit, I tell you.

The improvised weaponry devised by and for the Home Guard in the UK in 1940 was fearsome. Some of it was as dangerous to the user as to the target.

Smith Gun
Northover Projector

I found an interesting quote. A Home Guard instructor was asked what he thought was the killing range of a Home Guard armed with the ancient revolvers they had. The response? "As far as he can reach. If the enemy is further away than arm's length, throwing the revolver would be more effective."
