"It's okay, we're just cousins"

The Kyler Family reunion was turning out to be the typical snooze-fest for Kimberly. She'd been coming to these -- not always by choice -- since before she could remember. There were more than 500 people in attendance, and while there were some guests and significant others in the throng, most of those present were descended from or married to direct descendants of her father's Ellis Island-arriving great, great grandfather.

There were at least 60 here within a couple of years of Kim's age of 19, and yet after being here since dawn -- it was now 6pm -- she hadn't found a single person with whom she'd wanted to carry on a lengthy conversation of substance. Kim had plenty of time to meet someone of interest, or so she hoped. The reunion members had begun arriving this morning -- Thursday, the 3rd of July -- and most would remain here in the leased County park until Sunday morning when they would once again scurry off to their homes.

To be totally honest, Kim wasn't looking for good conversation. She was looking for a good fuck. She hadn't wanted to come to the reunion this year at all because she'd recently begun seeing a Grad Student at her University. He was four years older than Kim, could legally buy booze, had good connections to pot, and owned a new convertible Charger that he allowed Kim to drive so long as she sucked his cock afterwards.

She'd come here after not having seen him for three days, her body was screaming for release, and all she had to do was find a suitable candidate who wasn't a relative of hers. But after 8 hours, her hopes were beginning to fail her. She was expanding the pool, reducing her earlier appearance and age requirements. And yet, no one tickled her fancy.

Then he arrived.

Kim didn't recognized him or the parent-types who emerged from the SUV with him, which was good news as he probably wasn't a close relative if a relative at all. But her hopes were again dashed when after some inconspicuous surveillance of him and some casually asked questions of those with whom he and his parents were talking revealed that he was a much closer relative than possibly imagined.

"How come I didn't know dad had a brother?"

Her mother looked up from changing Kim's 6 year old sister out of a Kool-Aid drenched tee shirt, an anxious expression in her eyes as her face went white. Her mother sent Ella off to have more fun with a warning to be more careful, then turned to her oldest child.

"What makes you think that--"

Her mother went silent when -- without looking away from her maternal parent -- Kim pointed an extended finger off toward where her father and his apparent brother were talking.

"I'm ... I'm surprised he came," her mother said in a soft voice as she watched the pair. "He's never attended any of--"

"How the hell do I not know that I have an uncle?" Kim snapped. She glanced toward the cousin who had caused her loins to warm for the first time all day, then looked back to her mother. "And a cousin?"

Kim's mother explained that the two brothers had had a falling out shortly after Kim's birth, that her uncle had relocated for unrelated reasons, and that Robert and Richard -- Kim's father and uncle respectively -- simple hadn't communicated over the nearly two decades that had passed since then.

"Whose fault was it?" Kim inquired.

"Whose fault was what, honey?"

"The falling out!" she snapped. "Who did what to whom...? Who said what? Someone had to have done something to someone!"

Her mother contemplated a moment, then said with a shrug, "I don't know, honey. I ... I don't think either of them really did anything. I just know ... well, I don't really know any more than I've told you."

Kim hadn't been happy with the conversation with her mother. And, of course, she hadn't been happy about discovering that the only cock at the get-together upon which she was interested in taking a ride belonged to her cousin ... to her father's brother's son!

She initially avoided her cousin, not sure how to resolve her feelings over the turn of events. She went down to the lake's edge and found a place from where she could watch the small little fireworks displays that were being shot off from the homes on the far side of the water. She'd snatched a couple of beers from an unattended cooler and was feeling a little less stressed when she told herself, Fuck it! Cousin or not, I'm getting laid!

She headed back up toward the half dozen bon fires around which many of the Kyler's were assembled and searched for her father, her uncle, or anyone who---

And there he was.

Kim studied him for a long moment before circling the fire and crowd and coming up right next to him. When he turned to look down into her eyes, she smiled and said quietly, "Hi, I'm Kim. I'm Robert's daughter ... your father's brother's kid."

She didn't know whether all this had been explained to him yet. Hell, for all she knew he'd always known about her. Or, he may have only learned today, the same way she had. Who knew.

"You wanna take a walk?"

+++++++++++++

Imagine Kimberly as this girl, only wearing a button up plaid shirt with the tails knotted between her breasts and pierced belly button.

Eric had this pit in his stomach the entire drive to the county park. He was about to meet a large group of people...people who he probably should have known for the entirety of his 18 years. But because of the longstanding feud between his father and uncle, he really only knew everyone on his mother's side of the family.

Richard told Eric to prepare for what was about to come, and Eric started to wonder about things. How am I going to remember everyone's names? What if I don't like these people? What if I like them more than Mom's side?

There were so many questions, but not enough time as the family car pulled into a vacant spot along the gravel trail. He got out of the car and walked toward the throng of guests, his shyness forcing him to trail his mother and father.

As introductions were made, Eric found himself shaking hands and hesitantly hugging his relatives. They were kind people...some teared up at the sight of Richard and Robert finally burying the hatchet.

Eric didn't stray too far from his parents, refusing to get caught up in what would most certainly be awkward conversation. They grabbed a bite to eat and made some small talk with relatives wandering into one of the pavilions.

Darkness soon began to creep in, and Eric found himself sitting alongside his mother around a campfire. More conversation followed when he saw this girl seemingly come out of nowhere and walk toward him. Even though it was dark outside, the glow from the fire allowed him to see that she was a pretty cute girl.

She reached him, and he met her gaze with a warm smile.

"Hi, I'm Kim. I'm Robert's daughter ... your father's brother's kid."

Oh. She's his cousin. Of course she is.

Regardless, Eric would not be rude.

"I'm Eric...nice to meet you," he said, extending his hand to hers and shaking it.

"You wanna take a walk?"

Eric arched an eyebrow. Being a virgin and fairly shy, he wasn't one to receive attention from women like this. But hey, she's his cousin and probably just wants to hang out with someone her age. What could it hurt?

"Sure," he said, getting to his feet. He looked back at everyone around the fire before turning to Kim.

"So, uh, where do you wanna go?"

Kimberly smile, delighted. She slipped a hand into the crook of his elbow and turned him away from the fire as she said softly, "I know a place."

She walked him away from the light of the fire toward the park's lake, saying nothing. Their shadows before them darkened the ground making it hard to see where they were walking until they were finally far enough away that the light of the nearly full moon lit the path ahead.

Kimberly peeked back over her shoulder to see if anyone seemed to be paying them any attention. All she saw was what appeared to be the silhouetted backs of the extended family members still standing around the three large fires. There was a singing game going on between the three groups -- Rounds, she recalled from previous years, in which each group tested the other groups' memory for items added to each turn of song -- which only made her that much happier to be the fuck away from them all.

"I live in Northern California," she said after a bit, realizing that the silence was becoming awkward. "Mount Shasta. The town, not the mountain itself, though that might be cool, too. You?"

She picked her path as he responded, and when he was finished she went on, "I'm going to school in Oregon, though. Sophomore. Oregon State University, in Corvallis. Go Beavers."

The last two words were definitely sarcastic in tone. It was already pre-season for the Fall sports teams, and Kimberly had no interest in sports ... well, other than a particular one-on-one physical activity that sometimes had one winner and sometimes had two. But then, that sport didn't require a university, it's mascot, or a hundred yard playing field ... although Kimberly had recently done it in the middle of the football field as well as up against the goal posts.

They reached the lake just as Eric finished saying whatever he wanted to say about his current learning situation. Kim turned him toward a little grove that sat near the water's edge, and a moment later she released his arm and moved inland a few steps to what turned out to be a picnic blanket, all spread out and awaiting visitors. She went to the bushes, then turned back, presenting a pair of beer bottles in each hand.

"Raided some guy's cooler while he was watching his toddlers," she announced. She dropped onto the blanket, saying, "Sit. Tell me more about yourself. Got a girlfriend ... boyfriend maybe?"

The moonlight revealed her playful smile as she demanded he sit. She popped the tops off of two bottles with the edge of a flat rock she'd collected since she had no opener and offered out a bottle...

Kimberly knew she might have to get her cousin drunk before she attempted to seduce him...

"Hm, OK."

Still unsure about what exactly was going on, Eric allowed Kim to escort him away from the fire and the family. They walked together to the lake in silence before Kim finally broke the ice.

"Uh, Redding," Eric replied. "I just graduated from high school, but I'm going to Sacramento State. Let's go Hornets!" he added, raising his fist to the air. No, it wasn't the major school that Eric hoped to attend in his younger years, but it seemed nice when he visited. It allowed him to stay somewhat close to home without actually being, well...home.

"No, I'm single...and, uh, it'd be a girlfriend if there was one," Eric was quick to state, not wanting to leave any doubt about his sexuality. Suddenly, he was presented with a beer. With an arched brow, Eric accepted it -- his parents would freak -- and took a sip. He hoped Kim didn't notice the bitter look on his face as the alcohol first hit his lips.

Although this stranger was now to be considered family, and although she was quite attractive, Eric still had this uncertain feeling about him. "So, uh, what made you want to talk to me?" he asked bluntly, awkwardness be damned.

At her cousin's question, Kimberly scooted closer to Eric, smiling. "You're cute. I'm lonely. And I thought it would be nice to hang with you."

Without hesitation, Kimberly suddenly leaned in and pressed her lips to her cousin's in a quick but slightly wet kiss. She pulled back, smiling as she lifted her bottle to her lips and waited for his reaction.

(BTW: I added an image to the first post.)
