I live in the FRICKIN BOONE DOCKS!!!!

I finally got fed up with my dial-up and went into to get DLS....."I'm sorry, we don't have service out that far." GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I guess I shouldn't complain, I still have dial-up, and heck....it is better than smoke signals *sigh*

It certainly is frustrating

*grumble*

*mumble*

*gripe*

*mumble*

*sigh* :(

At this point, not sure what my althernative(s) are, if any!

I feel for you. I had to wait a long time to get broadband, and now that I have it, I'd hate to go back to dial up. It is better than nothing, but that's all that can be said for it. I hope your situation improves.

Ummmm....hopefully that was not the only reason! LOL ;)

I won't be moving anytime soon *I hope* I just moved here!

Maybe I should look into wireless?

No, we moved for other reasons ... too. :D

I don't know enough about wireless to give you an informed opinion, but if it works like cell phones do, then it sounds expensive.

I'm presuming you mean more like satellite...in that case with satellite you only get fast d/l times not fast u/l. Plus its more expensive...just for now I'd call your cable company and DSL company and see if they have any plans to expand into your area...maybe they're working on a node now?

When I went into the local phone co. office the other day, the receptionist put a call into someone to try to find out WHEN they might get DSL out my way.....still, no return call to me. I guess it is time to start making annoying phone calls, lol!!!

DSL won't be what you want. If you live more then a few miles from the main hub, the quality of the DSL gets worse. (or so it has in the past, not sure on the new tech). you need a cable modem. cable modems in most part of the US are more stable and are easier to do wireless with.

I am not IT, or anything just know what i have delt with in the past.

them would be your best bets that arn't local, if you have a normal cable cord run to your house, you have a good shot at being able to have a cable modem run. *this disclaimer here=====) some places still need to update cable lines to run a good service so check to make sure. don't sign anything till you see your system up and running, if the signal isn't strong enough, stay with dial up*

happy hunting

UGH!

Well, no cable out here.....and yes, I would be out a ways from a hub. However, the local telephone co assured me that they are working on expanding their DSL coverage out in the "country" as it is......

So, maybe by the time I am 50? lol....or just move into town, lol!!

Thanks for the info Silly, I will keep pestering the locals here & the cable co too!!!

What's the saying, The squeaky wheel gets the grease?!

hehe, the only other option, and i dont think its viable in 99% of the cases, is satalite internet.... but if you are willing they are able. i never tried it, but then i have cable.

if you want some info on it, i am sure i can dig some up.... not sure pricing or anything but.... its there lmao..

good luck, and happy hunting..

I just basically dealt with the same thing and I live in what is called a large city with everydamnkindaISP you'd want and when I finally did call up and get DSL the downstream (d/l) was slower than I had with netzero's HS dialup, needless to say I was somewhat pissed off and after 5 days and endless bullshit replies they "tweaked" the node in my area and I went from a 321KPS d/l speend up to 1.4MPS so yea, keep calling and be a pain in their ass

Oh yea, two days after they got it working right I cancelled it and had cable installed, after they updated and dropped new lines inside and out of course :D
