It's going to be cold the next 3 days.

Near the NE/SD state line, -3º F right now, low this morning 5 degrees lower, current windchill factor is -24º. Not much difference between our temps and Minnesota's. And the snow is still stacked up everywhere, though most of the streets have been cleared. We *are* looking forward (?) to a 60% chance of snow tomorrow with accumulations of another inch or so. And yes, the snow is kinda purty, especially where virgin snow has been resculpted by the wind into some rather fantastic and evocative patterns. None of which, of course, prevents me from looking even further forward - to spring.

My house is deep in the woods. The snow is coming down in tiny flakes in the front yard but in the back where there is mostly pine trees huge clumps of snow are coming down whenever the wind shifts. It is gorgeous. I absolutely love snow...except when I have to drive in it to get to work.

It's a balmy +12F here in the suburbs of Chicago. Almost cold enough to wear a hat.

Too cold for me (34 F here now or at least that's what Yahoo weather says). I think I will just stay in and sleep until Summer.

It's suppose to be -8 to -15 at night, when I'm working Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. The weather folks can't make up their minds just how cold it will be on any given night. And that is not with any wind chill added.

I've been to the store to get some warm undies and warm neck "socks" that cover my face. I don't need frozen cheeks or nose. This spot I'm working allows me to cover my face, when walking in the open. I wouldn't work there, if they didn't.

Some places require that we keep our face uncovered, because we are suppose to be accessible to the public. Well shit, if the public doesn't understand it's fucking cold outside, then that's just too bad. I'm not going to risk frostbite just to please some stupid suit that has image ahead of safety.

At the place I work, all I have to do is make sure all of my clothing is black, without any name labels showing. I have to take off name brand labels, etc. which isn't a problem. In the past I've colored them with black marker, but that doesn't last. It's just easier to remove, if they are sewn on. Once I get everything on, you can only see my eyes. Damn my eyes get cold, too.

Sorry for the additional venting. Back to the thread topic...baby, it's cold outside!

Glasses. Goggles. Even the yellow anti-glare goggles that pick up extra ambient light?
Well, I've tried glasses, but when it snows, I need windshield wipers. They are the wrap around kind and they do help some.

I've also noticed that glasses of any kind tend to show the glare of streetlights so I can't see into dark areas. And they also end up hurting the sides of my head, because of the other head wear I'm wearing push them tight against me head. But, they are better than nothing, in the extreme cold nights. The blowing snow can sometimes hit your eyes and sting like needles. My eyelashes sometimes get icicles on them, but they quickly melt.

And the only goggles I've found, aside from the glare issue, make me look like an alien or some weird molester. I think looking too weird would actually scare someone, if I happened to appear around a corner and startle them. I don't want to take it too far, so I get reported by someone as looking scary. That would not turn out good.

I know it seems strange and it's hard to explain. I'm in a subcontracted position. If someone were to complain enough, I could very easily be moved, just so not to piss off the client.

And I like to complain. Really, even though it gets pretty cold, I usually keep warm. I wear a lot of layers and tuck clothing in so there are no drafts. A lot of thin layers is better than a big bulky coat. I always wear at least 4 layers...those made for cold weather. Not long underwear really, but specially made for working outside and also things that skiers would probably wear.

It's all stretchy and tight fitting, so I don't look like the Michelin man. I have to wear my uniform over it all. It does take a while to get dressed and bathroom breaks are cumbersome.

I've lost faith in the Yahoo 6 to 10 day forecast. They didn't see this coming.

You might want to try the National Weather Service. They tend to correct their mistakes a little quicker.

Though there's still the occasional day where it swears it's supposed to be 50 degrees, heavy rain with lots of wind... And it's 68, sunny, and a perfect day for the park.

*shrugs*

Can't be right all the time I guess.

It's been a lot colder here in the past. Under zero. But I don't remember it being so cold for so many days. About 5 days of 20 degrees in a row. I guess I shouldn't complain since it is so much colder up north.

I have been hibernating off a horrible few gut days. Asshole body.

I've also had a 90 minute massage and I'm about to catch some faux sun for vitamin D. Not so bad, all considered.

Yep. 12 minutes of fake sun and horrible auto-tune pop vocals, the only way I can do winter.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

As far as winter goes, fuck it. Repeatedly. In the ass. With a board full of rusty nails.

I lived in Atlanta for a couple of years, back in the 70s. It snowed once, but by the time the sun came out, it was all gone by 10 A.M. Don't remember it ever getting very cold, though.

In the 90s, I traveled a lot to Corinth, Mississippi and Huntsville, Alabama. It was weird getting on the plane in winter clothing and then taking it off when I got off the plane. Don't remember it ever snowing then, either. Must be that global warming everybody is talking about.

It's suppose to be in the negative digits sometime this week, even without wind chill. But, they keep moving it down the week. It was to be Monday or Tuesday night, now it's moved to Wednesday night. Damn weather people...keep us guessing what's going to happen. I think it was near negative temps last night, but I was warm. You gotta dress for the weather.

Yeah... our night-time lows are projected for below-zero readings Wednesday and Thursday nights. Brrrrr... for me, dressing for the weather *properly* would include shorts and polo shirts... and an airplane ticket for Tampa, with return scheduled somewhere around May.

Tampa will be 32 tomorrow morning. Might try South America.

I just had to come inside from working in the garden because I was getting sunburned. Thinking about taking the dogs and going down to the river for a swim now. :D
