Itching after shaving

My legs itch madly after shaving. The shaving itself is very good, with no irritation. But a day or so later, I get an itch. Usually just a few isolated spots, but sometimes the entire back of my lower legs. I try not to itch, but I've woken up with scabs from scratching in my sleep!

My hair is light and fairly thin, so no genetic disadvantage. There are no visible reasons for the itching. Hydrocortisone helps, but I don't want to be using it all the time. Ironically, I have absolutely no discomfort shaving my pubic area, just the legs.

What can I do?

Are you using a good shaving routine and using a quality dry/sensitive skin lotion daily?

How long have you been shaving your legs?

I've only been shaving a few months, itching the whole time. I think I have a good shaving routine, but I don't have a good moisturizer. The only one I've used was too greasy, and didn't help.

Try something like Cetaphil Moisturizing lotion (store brand equivalents are often available), Aveeno, Sensitive/Dry Lubriderm, or St. Ives Vitamins A & E. You don't need to slather it on, just enough to soothe and moisturize after patting your legs dry and maybe before bed, too (or in the morning if you shave at night).

If you've been using the same shaving product, try a different one. You may also want to try a different laundry routine, as your detergent and any other products may be contributing to the problem as well.

You could try shaving at different intervals: instead of daily, skip a day or two, or vice versa.

If skincare and time (it might take longer for your skin to toughen up) don't help, I'd suggest investigating with a Dermatologist.

After shaving I use Jergens naturally smooth shaving minizing moisturizer. Helps the skin feel nice and smooth and cools it off.

aftershave

there was this aftershave I had once for women tho and it worked really nicely. If I can find the name of it I'll tell you. came in a blue bottle. My skin is sensitive too.

I agree that you should moisturize immediately after shaving, but maybe you need to hydrate yourself more and drink a lot of water on a regular basis. Besides, it's good for you :)
